I have an issue which I am not sure if it is software or a hardware problem so please forgive me if I have posted in the wrong forum.

I have an Acer laptop with Windows 10 Home operating system and every now and again when I am browsing all of a sudden my browser tells me I am not connected to the internet. This issue sometimes happens more than once an hour and sometimes up to 48 hours without a problem but that is rare.

On the system tray I can see either a star next to the internet access icon or sometimes a triangle but it tells me I have no Internet access. When I try to connect to the wifi betwork I should be connected to, it tells me it cannot connect me. Once I restart the laptop it usually works fine again until the next time.

This issue does not happen on my work laptop or on my partner's so it is unlikely to be a router problem.

If anyone can help it would be most appreciated.

    1. What model of Acer?
    2. Did it come with Windows 10 or was it an upgrade?

    1. Acer Aspire E1-570
    2. It was a free upgrade from Windows 8.1 in about 2016

    Try this:

    Open Device Manager

    Expand Network Card

Double click on Broadcom 802.11n and update the driver. If it is up to date, then click on Power Management and don't allow the computer to turn off the device to save power.

The driver is already up to date but I have unclicked the above. I'll see if that makes a difference.

I get exactly the same behaviour on my Thinkpad, though not as frequently as you do, maybe about once a week. This machine was also an upgrade to 10 from 8.1 and I have this hunch that TimW's suggestion to disallow power management is probably the cause. Let us know please if that sorts it.

I followed the instructions on Saturday and everything was fine for the rest of the day.

Yesterday it dropped out once and today so far it has dropped out the once too.

Go to your network card and under "Properties", disable your IPv6 protocol.

I had the same drop-out problem on my Nextbook tablet. Afterwards everything worked perfectly, no more drop-outs!

Sadly it has not resolved the issue, it dropped out once yesterday although I was out for most of the day and already dropped out once today.
