When AGP Slots came out and the 64 Bit PCI Slots came out and the PCI Express Slots came out they would all be up High on the Motherboard near the NorthBrige.

Because they Ran Fast and they could talk with the CPU.

But a lot of these MotherBoards today I see the PCI Express Slots are at the Low end of the MotherBoard say on the SouthSide.

Andything on the SouthSide is for Slow Speed SouthBrige stuff.

Now I know a lot of the new CPUs have NorthBrige and SouthBrige Built into them. And they use a controller to get to the Lanes.

But still should the Fast stuff still not be up near the CPU?

    Or what am I missing?

They are still up high. What is different is fewer PCI slots so they include more PCIe slots. The faster PCIe x 16 slots (typically used for graphics) are still up high where the AGP slots used to me. Then down near the bottom are the PCIe x 1 slots.

There may be one smaller PCIe x 1 slot up high but that is usually because the chipset is in the way and there is not room for a full x16 slot.

I know AMD MotherBoards do not use NorthBrige and SouthBrige ChipSets.

So what do they use to get Data say from the PCI Express Slot to the CPU?

Intel uses the NorthBrige to conect both the CPU and main Memory and PCI Express Slots.
So they all talk through the NorthBrige.

So does AMD MotherBords just have the main memory and PCI Express Slots go right to the CPU it'self?

Same and every motherboard, the data "bus".
