...but my Favorites folder is still in My Documents folder.

What’s up with this, and how do I fix it?

P.S. My Favorites bar is unaffected.

    - not from what I read in those Search results...there are several causes and several solutions found in them.

Which version of Windows and Internet Explorer are you using?

I'm guessing from his very long signature Windows 10 Pro (64-bit) and IE 11.

I'm not at all convinced Microsoft is paying much attention to IE11/Win 10 compatibility. My wife still runs IE11 on 10 and I see issues arising I wouldn't put up with. Edge is the browser for Win 10 and very nice it is too. Give it a try.

No problem. I thought people could tell from my bad hair day and fuzzy slippers that I was a female. :p And yes, I drink a lot of coffee so the mug in hand is very appropriate.

Not very flattering though plodr, surely you've a better pic than that :D

It's just a folder in your profile on the hard disk. In XP it's called Favorites and it's directly in Documents and Settings\<your username>. Don't know the details for Vista and 7. If that folder is empty, they are gone forever.

Most people prefer not to lose them, so include either that folder or the bookmarks file that results from exporting them in their backup. Just in case they are gone. Didn't you?

Ittech, if you read the Original Poster's signature, you will notice the OS is Windows 10. He/she doesn't need help with XP.

I couldn’t restore my Favorites from a Backup file because I had never created a Favorites Backup file.

The default location for the Favorites folder is C:\Users\<username>\Favorites. But I had put MY Favorites folder at C:\Users\anon\OneDrive\Documents\Favorites. And that worked just fine for a year or so. Until suddenly it didn’t.

So I moved my Favorites folder to the default location, and then I set Favorites > Properties > Location to the default location, and then rebooted. But that didn’t work.

So in regedit, I then set Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders > Favorites to the default location.

Upon exiting regedit via File > Exit, no prompt appeared (such as “Save,” “Apply,” or “OK”). I then rebooted.

But my Favorites still aren’t appearing in my browser (IE11).

    Comments?

You haven't given a time frame as to how long this problem has existed. Did an update cause it? Have you tried using System Restore?

The Favorites disappeared from IE’s dropdown list about two weeks ago. My best guess is that an update DID cause it. System Restore won’t work, because I didn’t have a restore point set.

I guess that you've found out the importance of having a back-up plan the hard way in case an update causes FUBAR to happen.... pretty much sounds like you're S.O.L.

I have a disc image that’s less than two months old, so if push comes to shove, I can get back my Favorites that way.

But since my Favorites folder is intact, surely there must be SOME way to restore my Favorites to the browser without going to the trouble to restore a disc image.

Good luck with that then, since you haven't found another way after starting this thread two weeks ago.

I haven’t found a way to fix this problem, which is exactly why I’m asking you gurus. So, I take it that you think there IS no solution to this problem? I’m not being facetious; I’m really just asking.

I did NOT say that. I did offer a solution.
In fact, ANOTHER solution would be for YOU to research whether or not you can mount your backup image using whatever program you created it with and extract a needed file for copying.
