I have Windows XP Pro X64

I run SpyBot S&D and Avira weekly. Today, I attempted to run these programs but my pc kept freezing. I tried them in Safe Mode but my computer kept freezing. I attempted to do a System Restore but there were no restore points even though it's set at maximum disk space usage of 12% and is "monitoring." I downloaded and attempted to run the programs recommended at MG. Results:

AdwCleaner: "This application has failed to start because dwmapi.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem." I tried re-installing but got the same message.

Mbam - "Unable to connect the Service"

RogueKiller: Froze several times. It found 3 items. I couldn't get the name of the first item because it kept passing too quickly.

    2nd Item: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE/SECURE DOWNLOAD

    3rd Item: S1-5-21-2049699319-3081317485-938346843-500\Software\WebApp

tdsskiller: finished running. I attempted to attach the GetUnKey.txt log but received the message "There was a problem uploading your file."

    HitmanPro_x64: Froze several times.

Any assistance you can give me will be greatly appreciated.

Not related. If you ran MGTools.exe, you should have a MGLogs.zip. TDSSKiller is a separate program.

Please download ComboFix to your desktop. Turn off any AV software you have before you run it. Attach the log when finished. Do not do anything while it is running or it may stall the program.

ComboFix error message said it's only good for XP 32 and Vista, Windows 7 and 8 64bit. I have XP Pro x64.

I tried uploading MGlogs.zip but kept getting an error message saying that there was an error in uploading the file.

Please download the latest version of FRST the below link.
Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.

Note: Make sure you download the proper version ( 32 bit or 64 bit ) for your PC. Only one will run, the correct one. So it you make a mistake and download the wrong one, go back and get the other.
    • Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
    • Press Scan button.
    • It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please attach it to your next reply.
    • The first time the tool is run, it makes also another log (Addition.txt). Please attach it to your reply.

It didn't ask which version I needed so I went to ComboFix website. It said it should work for either x32 or x64 but it doesn't. I received the same error message. I tried posting the error message here but again I received the same error message saying that there was an error in uploading the file. Is that a problem with my computer uploading or Major Geeks?

I always use Firefox but I just tried IE x64 and IE x32 but after I got to Major Geeks and try to enter Forums I got error messages on both browsers saying that "Internet Explorer cannot Display the Webpage." I can get into How-To's, Updater, Newsletter, etc, but not Forums. I don't know why.

I downloaded FRST and ran it and it gave me a .txt file but again I can't upload it.

FRST gave me Addition.txt and FRST.txt but I can't upload them.

Tell me exactly what you do when trying to attach a file.

I click on Upload a File below and it opens to my desktop. I click on the file I want to upload and a few seconds later, I get the error message.

(oops, pc froze) to continue . . . I found two TDSSKiller.txt files but, again, I can't upload them. I was going to copy and paste them here but they're way too long.

The TDSSKiller logs are three months old. MGLogs.zip is not there....only the uninstall list. Farbar shows some missing files, but no malware.

PC completely frozen now. I'm on a notepad now. I inserted XP disc to do a WINDOWS repair, went into Bios and chose 1st, 2nd, and 3rbd boot priority of CD ROM but it keeps gong to desktop and immediately freezes. I don't know what else to do.

Yes, I started having problems several months ago and ran some programs. Almost impossble to find XP anti-virus/test programs now. Tdss.killer ran but i didn't know what to make of the results and i forgot about them. I thought they were yesterday's results when I saw them last night.

Do you have any idea why my pc won't boot from CD ROM?

I hear the CD spinning up when I start the pc so the CD ROM drive is working. I checked the connection and it's secure. I built the pc myself about 12 yrs ago, not that I knew much, but I figured it out slowly but surely by reading up on building a pc on line. So I'm half-way decent at dealing with hardware/bios settings. I don't think the problem is hardware-related.

You need to remove the cd, reboot and immediately go into bios and make the CD-rom the first boot device. Put the cd in the drive, F10 to save your bios changes and let it reboot to the cd.
I suggest you follow through with a thread in the software forum.

I did that already. I figured out the reason my pc completely froze when it reached my desktop. It's because I had all 3 priorities set to CD Rom. I changed it to

    1st - CD Rom
    2nd - Floppy
    3rd - Hard drive

When I reboot my pc, it asks me how I want to start my pc. No choices are to start from CD Rom but even if there were, when I try to go up and down on the list, it doesn't move. The choices given are Windows XP x64, Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Networking, Safe Mode with Command Prompt, Last Best Configuration, etc, but I can't chose any of them. I have to wait until the timer runs out and it boots to my desktop by itself.

I've done a Windows Repair in the past. I've also reformatted my hard drive in the past. It's been a few years since I did a reinstall of Windows but it was always easy, the options were always available. Now they're not.

I can also get into disk priority by taping the F12 (if I remember correctly) key at start up but I can't choose up or down in that menu either.

Denise, this is the wrong forum for discussing a re-install. Please start a thread in the software forum to get assistance with this issue.
