Need Help With Google Chrome Problem, (windows 10).

I rarely use forums, so please forgive me.

My Windows 10 laptop developed this issue where characters were missing in text words in programs, and my directories only showed a list of icons.

I did many things to fix it, I rebooted, reinstalled ccleaner, Wise disk cleaner, mbam, Rogue killer, and reinstalled Chrome(as I am having a problem with Chrome). And I used Revo to uninstall. I rebooted before re-installing programs.

I have PrivateFirewall, and it NO LONGER likes Chrome, even before I started all this reinstalling.

The ONLY way I can use Chrome now is to set PrivateFirewall to Allow Traffic all the time.

Firefox works just fine.

Any suggestions? Has anyone heard of this?

At first when my directories where only listing an icon, I was afraid my computer was ransomed. So while I was still on my computer I started deleting (within Private Firewall) the apps running and also the processes, but I could only do one at a time as the right mouse pad button had no text, only icons.

So I rebooted and then started all the uninstalls and reinstalls of programs, and running Rogue and mbam and SuperAntiSpyware, etc.

Hi Eldon, Thanks, I did not notice that PrivateFirewall did not support Windows 10, (I have been using it for a year). I don't think that is why my computer started hiding parts of words, not showing file names in directories, and then would not let me use Chrome.

Can you suggest what Firewall I should be using?

I got this laptop about a year ago, and just installed the same software programs that I had been using on my previous laptop (which was Windows 7). I missed that PrivateFirewall was not supported on 10, good catch.

 

Hi Eldon, I removed PrivateFirewall, and I installed ZoneAlarm. I can now use Google Chrome again, which is what I wanted. Going to re-run anti malware programs, again. I don't know what to think.

 

Let us know if the other issues are fixed.

I used to use ZoneAlarm, so it was not a bother to switch back to it. Chrome works fine now, with it, switching to ZA.

I had been able (with all the scanning and re-installing I did on the laptop) to get the missing characters in text and in directories with NO text just icons, fixed before I posted here, but then Chome would not work with PrivateFirewall!

All is well now, just have no idea why it all happened. I do not seem to infected by anything, (had run and re-run various software programs, separately, and alone. Crazy. Good catch noticing PrivateFirewall did not support Windows 10.

Should I mark this CLOSED somewhere?
