Is there a "safe" way to reinstall a missing Twain_32 folder. My Brother MFC--825DW printer stopped working properly and when I did an uninstall and reinstall but the Twain Folder will not appear in my C: drive.

Any help will be highly appreciated.

    Hi baklogic,

I have tried these many times including as much as the program files as I could find and deleted them and starting a fresh install both from the original installation disc and the Brother download.

I have spent over 8 hours on the phone with 4 different techs the last one a high level tech. He was the one that discovered that the Twain_32 folder does not exist. He then proceeded to tell me it was a windows problem not theirs. I just hate it when vendors blame it on Microsoft when they are stumped.

I also spent about 3 hours doing Google searches to no avail and decided to come to the Hard Hitters @ Major Geeks. I sure some one can help me get this resolved as I have "a lot" of ink for it.

I run Windows 7 Ultimate and there's no Twain folder in the C: Drive.
However, there's a Twain folder in the Windows folder.
    C:\Windows\twain_32
Is this the folder that's missing?

    Hi Eldon

Yes, that is the folder that is missing and just can't figure out why it will not load at all.

    Is it MFC-825DW or MFC-J825DW?

When I search for a manual, I'm offered the model with a J in it.

I checked a 32 bit and 64 bit Win 7 Home Premium computer and the twain32 folder is indeed in the Windows folder. (I have a wireless AIO HP printer).

Are you setting it up wirelessly or do you have it attached to a computer? (Mine was set up using a smart phone and is not attached to any computer).

    Do the following:
Open the Windows folder and create a new folder named twain_32.
Extract the file wiatwain.ds from the zip archive and move it to the twain_32 folder.
Restart the PC and re-install the Brother software.

    Hi plodr,

Yes, it has a J in it. I am setting it via USB. I just can't seem to get the twain_32 folder to download via Brother. I was wondering if there is a way to download it "safely" from online.

The printing from computer to printer works the printer will work but I am unable to get the twain_32 folder to run so scan etc. via Brother ControlCenter4 program. The Scanner (Driver) is the only thing that does not install no matter what I try.

    Thanks...

    Hi Eldon,

Thanks for the advise. I did as recommended first doing an uninstall of the Brother Program. Created of the twain_32 to folder in the C: drive and reinstalled the program using the original CD. No help at all. As before the ControlCenter4 icon shows in the Brother File but will not open, when I click on the icon "Nothing" happens at all. I have installed a screen shot of the folder for you.

Now what I did not think to do is create a Restore Point which I most always do. I guess I got to excited about getting my scanner back I just jumped on it. I am telling you this only because now I can not open two or as many screens at a time as I always could before. In other words when I want to open site a and b at one time "split screen" I can not do so. I have no idea why this is happening now???

Thank you again for your advise. :)

You need to create the twain_32 folder in the Windows folder.
Did you copy the wiatwain.ds file to the twain_32 folder?

I twice posted the twain_32 folder must be created in the Windows folder.

Ah, that makes it much sense to me. I will give that a try when I get back home. Thanks for sticking with me on this. :)

    Hi Eldon,

When I went to create the new folder in Windows I found it was already there. I took a S/S of the first page of sub-files in the folder. Any ideas...

I couldn't find that file again, and I noticed I didn't scroll back up before grabbing the S/S so it is pretty much useless. Not only that but I can not even find it now?

I grabbed a bunch of S/Ss but they aren't in any particular order but they show you what I see in the folder and sub-folders. I don't know if you can make more sense of it than I. :(

Sorry I see I can only download 5 files at a time, I will send the last 2 in another reply.

This screenshot is of the System32 folder.

Screenshots 2-5 clearly show the twain_32 folder in the Windows folder which is correct. It also shows the sub-folders for the Brother MFC-J825DW.
The problem is not related to the twain_32 folder.

    You have two options:
    1. Work through this lengthy FAQs & Troubleshooting.
    http://support.brother.com/g/b/faqtop.aspx?c=us&lang=en&prod=mfcj825dw_all

    2. Got back to the "high level tech" and tell him the twain_32 folder does indeed exist.

    Hi Eldon,

Hear is the new problem: When I hit the Control Center4 shortcut I get a UAC popup that asks me if I want to open BrCc Boot.exe. When I hit yes It opens the program but it mess' up my complete screen to what you see in the attachment. I am able to scan a document when doing so but in order to get my screen back to normal I have to do a restart. It seems I am so close but so far. I guess my next step would to call Brother again, correct, or do you have any other ideas now?

I ready do appreciate you time in helping me solve the problem, it seems we are so darned close. :)

Try adding it as an exclusion,or, go off-line, untick 'connect automatically' for your internet- and turn Windows defender off (usually requires restart to work) Restart and tr it.
I have found the delay in Defender asking, can make a program function in correctly.

I used this site to do as suggested: https://www.techsupportalert.com/co...shortcut-run-without-uac-prompt-windows-7.htm to no avail. When I click on the new shortcut I get a very quick rectangle with no words and that's all that happens.

We are. And at least the scanning now works.
I think you should. But, before you do anything suggested by the tech, post over here.

Also, don't let them remotely access the computer.
I had to call HP or Dell (I don't remember if it was an HP printer or a Dell branded HP printer) for someone a few years back. I was okay for about the first 15 minutes but when he started wandering around the computer files and looked like he was about to remove/delete something, I called a stop to it. I said I didn't feel comfortable (he didn't look like he knew what he wanted to remove), and hung up. I can create chaos on a computer without any help from someone remotely accessing the computer!

The person returned that printer, got another and we had no trouble setting that one up.

Thanks for reminding me not to let them do that. I did that once and only once (Not Brother but another provider) I ended up having to do a complete image restore after he got done doing his "thing" What a nightmare but I did learn a valuable lesson that day. :( I try to always make a restore point also before making any changes, that is a God Send in it's self.

Thanks for bringing this up so if anyone that stumbles across the thread doesn't make that mistake...

    Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to let you know I just spend the last 1.5 hours on the phone with Brother. I ended up bumped up to tier 3 (which I didn't even know they had) and the first thing the fellow asked me to do is let him take remote control of my machine. After I told him "that isn't going to happen" he said OK lets see what we can do. He was impressed with the fact that I knew my way around the machine "thank you, thank you very much. :) After only about fifteen minutes with him a was up and running again. Yeah!

Ah, as you all know the per verbally "but" hits. When I click on the shortcut button I get the darned UAC box popup asking for permission to run the program before I can run it. That never happened before nor do I think it should now. My buddy Mike at Brother kindly informed me that this was a Wind OS problem and there was nothing he could do about it. If anyone has any idea how to correct this it would be much appreciated.

I would like to send a special shout out to Eldon and Plodr for your help...
