More families are separated as a result of crime than any other reason. Sad, but crime is always a choice.

When a parent is sent to jail, if an only parent, the child goes into foster care.....not locked in a detention center with blacked out windows. Even a US senator was refused admission to check on their health and welfare.

Agreed, they need to provide better care of these children. I was just pointing out who was at fault: the criminal.

Um....just so we understand each other, who is the criminal?

Thanks, DOA, but I was asking WHO is the criminal that you were referring to, not a definition.

To change the laws, we need to do what we want...to change the laws.

I'm confused. How do we change the laws without taking action by focusing on doing what we want?

But..but...don't you know, Just Playin, that Rosa Parks was not protesting equal rights, she was protesting against the bus company. ROFLMAO.

Wifey and I spent two years getting signatures, gathering friends in the community and attending City Council meetings to stop mega homes being built in our neighborhood. Ton of work, but very effective. Speed lumps to discourage speeding took 8 months and we were opposed by those wanting the speed limit raised from 25 to 35 by our school.

My point is Rosa Parks should not have had to refuse to move. The bus boycott is what had clout and was a powerful means of progressing the issue.

  14. TimW

TimW MajorGeeks Administrator - Jedi Malware Expert Staff Member

    Yes, she did!!
"Sparked by the arrest of Rosa Parks on 1 December 1955, theMontgomery bus boycott was a 13-month mass protest that ended with the U.S. Supreme Court ruling that segregation on public buses is unconstitutional."
Just like you had to stop mega homes being built in our neighborhood.
Which never would have happened if she didn't act and didn't get arrested.

  15. Just Playin

    Just Playin MajorGeek

Her actions were opposite your point.
Her refusal to comply with the bus segregation law and subsequent arrest were the catalyst for the boycott.

Strawman?? Really. Pay attention, the bus boycott would not have happened if she had not taken action and been arrested.
So you admit that had you and others not taken action, you would not have had those result?

While outside interference with elctions likely go on I just get the feeling its in MSM now and hightened as an excuse to those who lost, getting same in UK, next alients from melmac had bearing on brexit!

On speedhumps I think great if not humps but tables as if you drive a small economical car they are a nightmare to drive over and I want them gone from UK, had two alloys repaired (current car has Pirelli P-Zero Nero tires so bugger all clearnece to alloy, so potholes and poor speedhumps damage them easily), suspension checked 4 times, to a point Im thinking of a SUV just for commuting to work, far rather the small car but these humps are making it a nightmare. Report damaged ones monthly, as never know if a rough edge is cutting into inner side of tire, so dangerous if tire delaminates, we never really look at tire quality on the inside.

  19. DOA

    DOA MG's Loki

Tim, you need to divide legal and illegal action then state what side you support. Probably in each case.

I feel your pain David, I run 35 series tires and have to slow down for the speed lumps - but that is the idea, isn't it.

We fought a civil war over a legal action. Millions died fighting a legal law. Rosa Parks action may have been illegal at the time, but without that action in defiance, the bus boycott wouldn't have happened and the law wouldn't have changed. Or are you advocating for us to do nothing when faced with bigotry? Should be just accept racism, sexism? We seem to be condoning the kidnapping of children at our borders. Should we stay silent?
Hitlers actions were legal...in Germany. Does being legal mean it is moral or ethical?

In case you need clarification.....which I shouldn't have to do....I am against injustice, bigotry, racism, violations of human rights..etc whether it is legal or illegal.

    Just where do you stand?

All that is needed for evil to persist is for good men to do nothing.

"the bus boycott wouldn't have happened" I defer to your knowledge of other paths of history.
We stand for the same things, some times we differ some in how to achieve them. I do agree that eventually legal channels may be exhausted and only illegal ones remain. But for me, illegal actions are to be avoided while legal channels are available.
Perhaps I mis-understand your statement about evil (certainly the statement is correct) but your implication that taking legal action is doing nothing is wrong.

Time for me to stop. I see no direct response to my questions, just "strawman logic".
In case you missed it, my question is "Do you support illegal actions to promote change?" I was expecting posts like my own "When all legal means are exhausted". Or perhaps people are still considering where they stand on this issue.

  27. TimW

TimW MajorGeeks Administrator - Jedi Malware Expert Staff Member

I gave a response to your Strawman link....it wasn't a question, DOA. It was a definition. It really had nothing to do with the facts of the conversation.
Was that not sufficiently clear for you?
Every argument has been that action needs to be taken in response to injustice whether or not legal or illegal. Did we not say it in a manner that you would understand?

  28. DOA

    DOA MG's Loki

    No, you did not.
At what point would you support illegal activity to implement a change? Would you support illegal action in response to a quote from someone in office? Would you support illegal action as a first response to a proposed law? A response to the law passing? As a response to the law being enforced? When the law's enforcement caused actual harm? When legal challenges based on that harm failed?
"I am against injustice, bigotry, racism, violations of human rights..etc whether it is legal or illegal." is just the moral high ground all will agree with. What, in your opinion, justifies illegal action? Not in history, but as a guide going forward? At what point should that illegal action be taken?

  29. TimW

TimW MajorGeeks Administrator - Jedi Malware Expert Staff Member

Vietnam war. The separation of children from parents. Tent camps for toddlers. So far, the illegal action has for the most part been sit ins. Taking a knee as action against illegally killing children who are unarmed. Surely you can point out a few.
Confiscated Guns Must Be Sold, Not Destroyed, Rules Arizona Supreme Court...Do you think this deserves action? Returning guns to the general public?
Roe vs. Wade. Law of the land, but it does not stop people shooting at clinics and doctors, trespassing on clinic grounds. States trying to bypass the law. Cloaked in legality, shot down by laws.
How about laws banning gay marriage in some states> is that worthy of action? Or is that covered by the Declaration of Rights?
When ...injustice, bigotry, racism, violations of human rights..etc occur whether it is legal or illegal."[/QUOTE]
In this country, we usually try to pursue the legal avenue first. If that fails, then it will often resort to civil unrest! However, it did resort to a civil war.
The Boston Tea party was an act of civil disobedience. On March 12, 1930, Indian independence leader Mohandas Gandhi begins a defiant march to the sea in protest of the British monopoly on salt, his boldest act of civil disobedience yet against British rule in India.
It didn't take illegal activity...just a solid no vote!:
Roy Moore was once again caught making remarks that can be interpreted as okay with slavery.

So, sometimes it only takes legal means, while other times it requires the people to rise up.

    Declaration of Independence:
Articles 2 and 3 note the revolutionary concept that "all power is vested in, and consequently derived from, the people..."[11] and that "whenever any government shall be found inadequate or contrary to these purposes, a majority of the community hath an indubitable, unalienable, and indefeasible right to reform, alter or abolish it, in such manner as shall be judged most conducive to the public weal."

That does not refer to legal or illegal means of redress.

The only line in a wall of yelling that hints at your personal stance.
Some history, much yelling. I don't understand why you avoid stating clearly your own stance.
Instead you ask me mine. "Do you think this deserves action?"
Or do you not have a general stance but react to each instance differently?
Something like "When all legal means are exhausted" is pretty clear. Or "When a law is passed that might violate the rights of gun owners" (example, not my stance).

"sometimes it only takes legal means, while other times it requires the people to rise up." Does this also confuse you?

If you don't want history, explain when history has stopped and what is presently happening that might be considered a travesty that needs action...... like a 17 yr old black kid unarmed being shot in the back three times by cops. Or maybe thousands of immigrant kids being taken from their parents?

That is not "I, TimW support", it's "we", "us", "in this country". If you have an opinion, state it as yours, use first person, OWN IT.
Or if you want to talk about what the country/state/police do that is also fine, but don't expect people to think it's your opinion. Nor will it be an answer if you are asked what your opinion is.

And so on to my next opinion; Canada targeting tariffs to specific states supporting Trump needs a trial of foreign intervention. Canada's stated purpose is to sway elections against Trump.
I want the court system to determine if this is legal. Certainly they can change tariffs how they want, but stating a political purpose puts a new spin on it.
    Biased article, but good history:

"I, TimW will support" Taking a knee as action against illegally killing children who are unarmed.

Trumps Tariffs pinpoint certain goods/industries in foreign countries. "I. TimW will support our allies targeting any Trump owned business with tariffs."
China targeted American soy beans. It is devastating Iowa. Who started it? Hint: Not China.
I am not spending the rest of my evening answering your questions when you have not stated ONE hint at what you support other than speed bumps in your community."

Yes I want to open this can of worms. Here, where people support their opinions with documentation.

"illegally killing children who are unarmed" Education about menacing actions is something I strongly support, it's the only solution to this problem. This video needs to circulate in every high school along with a lecture. Some body movements get a person shot whether they are armed or not. Whether or not they are armed is usually in question until the incident is over. In this video he was putting one gun down while reaching back for a second, he did not know there was an officer behind him. Would you have shot if there was no back up behind him or would you be dead? How do you know if he has a gun or is scratching his butt? He needs to know scratching at that time will get him shot.

YES! WTO is the right venue but at first they seemed reluctant to get involved. Do you have another solution?

Sorry if I have not made my positions clear, and posted my suggested solutions. Only by open debate can we find the best solutions.

But only needed for minorities, right? After all, they are the majority of unarmed people who are being shot. But that whole "take a knee" thing and BLM are just a hoax, right. Teach them niggars to stop resisting. Teach them to not scratch their ass. And by God, they better not be sitting on a curb!!

In the first link above -

"Officers found two semi-automatic handguns on the floor of the car. Allegheny County Police Superintendent Coleman McDonough said he was confident the car pulled over by East Pittsburgh police was involved in the incident, noting that a back window had been shot out."

    Also in other stories-
The glock matched casing found at the drive-by. The 9mm was found in the car.
So the cop shot too fast.

I was raised that you're as guilty as the friends you keep.
    Pick better stories for arguments.

Has been stated in many news stories as a farce.

    "Don't attract police. Live longer!"

"The officer involved in the shooting has not been named by authorities, but had been hired in mid-May and sworn in just hours before the shooting.."
The driver of the vehicle, a 20-year-old man, was taken into custody and released after McDonough said officers did not feel they had cause to charge him in the earlier shooting.
Stephon Clark, the unarmed black man shot by Sacramento police officers while holding a cellphone in his grandparent’s backyard last week, was shot eight times, six of which hit him in the back, according to independent autopsy results released on Friday.

When 15-year-old Jordan Edwards was recently shot and killed by a police officer in suburban Dallas, the initial narrative was that the car he was a passenger attempted to mow down the officer who repeatedly fired his rifle into the vehicle. Upon reviewing the body camera footage of the incident, the Balch Springs Police Chief then openly stated that the initial narrative was a complete fabrication and proceeded to fire the officer who was later charged with murder.

Imandy, do you really need more examples? Do you think that the whole uproar over take a knee is a big hoax?

    I did!

Running away is not menacing. Talking on your phone and then holding your hands up is not menacing. What I posted were not of victims who were engaged in menacing actions. If menacing action education is your plan, I posted a vid of someone obeying police commands and still got tazed.
Well, it's open. I Googled "Solution to racism" and couldn't find any.

I know the man in this story. Started with a possible shop-lifting at a home improvement center. Chase, unmarked vehicle, and who knows what other contributing factors, ending with shot in the head. Guess he gets no trial. Oh - he was a white man.

Even though a friend, if he would have stood down, he could get his day in court and maybe loose a little freedom to pay his dues. He chose to run.

It is but damaging car is not, even slow driving the humps in my area are damaging, more so as the rough edges I complain about to council, as never know what damage is done to inside tires. I have argument with local MP and council one do they want small eco cars or not, I have as daily a Abarth 595 its small but speed humps it no like over SUVs

ok question again in interference, likely but we likely do same.

That does seem likely. And perhaps inevitable as the WTO has not protected the US trade from unfair practices, especially from China. IMO if the WTO cannot function as the watchdog it's supposed to be (and it has not), disband it.
In keeping with our previous discussion, this is a legal avenue.

Hopefully you are not alone. Kimber Park had speed lumps put in, but they screwed them up and they are too steep. The residents all slow to 5 MPH for them and are en masse attending Council meetings - they even have matching yellow T shirts so their numbers can be seen. I doubt City Council will fail to act, there are too many votes out there supporting higher speed lumps (20 MPH without discomfort to passengers).

A blog post is a legal avenue?? You'll have to explain that to me. I'll write an opinion and call it a legal avenue.
Unfair tariffs? This is what the tariffs were that Trump is starting a war over:
This is why we need heavy tariffs on our allies:
    Canada 0.8
    China 3.5
    Denmark 1.6
    Finland 1.6
    France 1.6
    Germany 1.6
    Japan 1.4
    Poland 1.6
    Portugal 1.6
    Sweden 1.6
    United Kingdom 1.6
    United States 1.6
    See how unfair this is!!!

We import more than we export!! That is why we have an "imbalance"!!
Do you know what the Canadian tariffs are going to effect? They are directed at Red States!! Purposefully!!
