Electric is the way forward, just how we generate eletric power is the crix these days, hydrogen is an option as solar is ok for sunny climbs but UK not so much.
I want to go electric but bugger all charging points in city, are some and in work carpark a few but all taken up.

you can run a car on water

I hope you mean amphibious cars.

David, I charge 90% at home. Only on long trips do I need to charge on the way, but California is set up for it. Plenty of restaurants and hotels with chargers. If you have 220/240V 50 amp at home you are good to go. On trips RV parks work well enough.

Ahh, the documentary on failed inventors.
The only way cars can run on water is if you boil it and make a steam engine. Water is not the power source, nor can it be.

Well, born on Flag Day and disgusted by the whole self serving lot. Today we have a pair of playboys playing kissy face in paradise. Like Trump or not, he's still born on third base bone spurs and all. Not green, envy or jealousy. It's just what it is in the eyes of a pragmatist.

In other news, last time I checked Brown's molecule requires the equivalent of a DeLorean for an engine, from venturis to tailpipe if used in an internal combustion engine. Fun article.

Not true if you have a constant supply of water it could last you ten years or more depending on how acidic the water is to metal.

Steam engines / Old stile trains create there own power by using water and heat.

And back in the old days on a flat surface it could hull up to 20 plus cars.

There is no device that uses water as fuel.

Steam engines need a power source to heat the water.

    Buy low?

IMHO, Luddites have a good position, but antiquated. Technology is a better tool than toy. Also IMHO, people tend to abuse toys very easily. Incidentally, we are animals after all...

P.S. Think dog and chew toy, lol

    This is important.
In 2014, worldwide, 61% of electricity generation came from coal and gas.
    http://www.tsp-data-portal.org/Breakdown-of-Electricity-Generation-by-Energy-Source#tspQvChart
During the same year, in the US the number was 66.2%.

Scientists, engineers & technologists, with the help of governments and private companies, need to find ways to more efficiently generate and store electricity from solar, wind & water.
Using genetically modified sugar cane to increase the yield of sucrose solely to produce ethanol, is also an alternative to producing fuel (petrol & diesel) from oil or coal.

Living close to Tesla does color one's information, but I try to get unbiased info. Thanks Eldon. BTW, ethanol is still producing CO2, but at least it's renewable.

Tesla, at least locally and seemingly globally, is pushing solar panels or entire solar roofs with batteries to run homes and charge cars. They sell the whole line to implement this, but it's currently pretty pricey. I have a 6KW system which easily runs the house, but is not enough for 50 miles a day in our car. I have to buy some electricity during the winter.
That one is solved, now to bring the price down. Tesla deals with the massive size needed by diversifying the grid into each home/business with solar/wind and batteries.

The question is positive, neutral, or negative. At least TAG oils and lipids are carbon neutral if you use solar power for the ultrasound mixing/transesterification.

    Anyways, we can do better.

Our reliance on fossil fuel power stations (especially coal) must be reduced. The environmental impacts are still high and while the cost per MWh differs from country to country, it's not the most efficient.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cost_of_electricity_by_source#Energy_Information_Administration

Driving an environmentally friendly car while the electricity generated to charge the battery pack comes from environmentally unfriendly sources is not good enough. As the number of electric cars increase, so will the demand for electricity. And that electricity needs to come from renewable sources.

Also, researchers are working to further improve supercapacitors as well as reducing production costs. Apart from the lower voltage limits, they are superior to rechargeable batteries.

As I envision the transition; please correct me if this is wrong.
Simultaneously an increase in electric cars and solar/wind power generation.
Electric cars will happen faster with a small net benefit as electric cars powered by a dirty plant is still cleaner overall than gas or diesel powered cars.
Solar powered homes and clean power plants with batteries will grow as costs allow, shutting down dirty power plants while making the grid more stable.
As you said, super-capacitors would be better than batteries and would speed up this process.

Eventually we might see the end to power outages

I believe in this and have a system in place to prove it works. Slowly friends are seeing this is a viable alternative to what they have always done.

Yeh but now its 'dirty plant' with electrics? Come on!

Its a game of cost V's output efficiency
