I just connected an old Toshibo Canvio v73600-A “500GB” USB external HDD to my desktop (it’s actually 465GB), and I was able to copy a lot of files to it, no problem.

Now I want to disconnect it. But when I right-click on it in Windows 10 File Explorer, “Eject” doesn’t appear in the pop-up menu. I rebooted, but that didn’t help.

    What’s up with this?

Had the same problem. Ended up shutting down, unplugging and restarting. Some External drives don't like being disconnected

I figured that was probably safe to do, but I wasn’t dead sure. Does anyone know if doing this ever causes data corruption or any other problems?

Try it the proper way - right click the USB icon in the system tray and click Eject ....

Here’s what a space cadet I am — I actually knew this and forgot all about it.

    Thanks!
