I have a fairly new Dell 8900 and want to swap its 1TB HDD with a new Crucial 1TB SSD

I plan to clone the existing HDD using Macrium7 to the new SSD, then remove the HDD and install the new SSD in its place.

Would this work? Would the currently existing SATA cable work with the new SSD? Any tips or advice would be appreciated

    Thanks for your help

There could be problems...Dell 8900 is a Desktop correct???

If this is a Desktop then there is a posabaility that the Cloning part could have issues.Sawpping out parts is the easy part.

Is the 1 TB hard drive the oringal stock hard drive that came with the desktop. If so this could be an OEM product.Which means possiable cloning issues.
As long as the sata cable is compatable then yes sawpping out parts is easy.

If you are sawpping out parts i would suggest on just reinstalling windows if self on a fresh drive. And just keep your other drive as a secondary back up just incase.

It should work. You may want to get a 2.5 to 3.5 drive adapter if you wish to install the SSD in the HDD's space. Just make sure Just make sure you can boot, run and access the recovery partition before you consider formatting the HDD for extra storage, etc.
