Maybe someone can give me a clue. When I push the input button on my remote it does not work. I have tried several diferent remotes.
This has just occured so, I have a lot of dvd's and can't watch them. I don know how this input works.

I don't know how it works either because I don't know what hardware you are talking about. Computer's don't typically have remotes, but many other devices do such as TVs, A/V receivers, DVRs, optical disk players, cable boxes and more.

You say this "just occurred". Are you saying it used to work fine? If so, what is your expected results?

Input typically refers to the "Source". So if this is a TV remote, changing the Input would change the "source" of what you see on the TV between the antenna, disk player, cable box and even a connected computer.

First thing I would look at is to make sure all the cables are properly connected.

How do you get your tv signal: cable, satellite, antena?
What sort of other gizmos, if any, are attached to the tv set?

I have my magnavox dvd player cabled to my tv so when I want to play dvd it I nornally aim the remote to the tv and hit the input button and it opens up so that I can see the movie, I heave voices but no picture.
When I want to just use my vcr player on the tvi hit channel 3 on the remote and enanables me to view a cassete tape on my tv
I get my my signal from cable I have no other items connected.

Then it would seem your remote is properly changing the input but either your DVD player or your TV is failing on the video side. Again, make sure your cables are securely fastened.

You might also try that DVD player on another TV.

Our cable company, Comcast, will not pass along a signal unless we have a DTA (digital television adapter) or a cable box attached to the tv.

I have to first use the remote supplied by the cable company with the box and press the input button so the signal switches to AUX which is DVD/VCR. I can then use the DVD-R/VCR remote to watch the DVD. (Just make sure that your DVD is powered on. If it is and you get no picture, then I suspect the player is bad).

You can always watch the DVD on a computer.
I have an external portable DVD burner that I can hook up to our netbooks that don't have optical drives and watch DVDs on those 3 computers.
