Manufacturer's Update Software When Installing New Operating System

I have noticed that when you buy a new computer, the computer has some software named after the computer assembler. For example, HP computers have some sort of HP software built in. I am not sure exactly what these software packages do but maybe, depending on manufacturer, things like checking/ updating drivers, asking you to register with them (for support/ warranty).

When I install a different operating system from scratch, do you think I should be concerned about preserving that software?

Most, if not all, new PCs are bundled with software from the manufacturer/assembler. This often includes shareware/trial programs and games that are 'sponsored' by publishers. Many of these programs start with Windows and continue to run in the background slowing down the PC.
I have re-installed Windows numerous times and none of the junk that came with the PC where re-installed. This had no ill-effect on the working of the PC and/or Windows.

but isn't there a core software that the assembler provides that helps with updating drivers, if you run into a difficulty there? Maybe years ago that was more important, as it was standard for you to need to manually install a driver for each of your computer components. But now with the newer operating systems, the operating systems seem to just automatically handle that.

Exactly. So why do you also need software from the manufacturer to update drivers?

More importantly, drivers should only be updated when there's a problem. The same applies to Firmware for hardware devices, and as well as the BIOS.

I guess you really don't but the computer assembler could stay appraised of what drivers the operating system doesn't "cover" well.
