After Dark For Winxp/10?

Hi! Somebody here pointed me to After Dark 4.0 on-line. I tried to install the NT version on a Win10/64 and WinXP computers and got a Can't Write to the Registry error. Should I install the Win98 version on these computers? What could be causing the bug?

I already have After Dark. I got it at https://archive.org/details/AfterDarkCompleteCollection. The problem is getting it to work. :frustrated:

I thank you for the link, but the problem I have is installing the program. I also tried to install it on a WinXP computer with the same problem: I get a Can't Write to Registry error. I tried both the Win9x/ME and WinNT versions; same error.

 

Right-click the setup file > Properties > Compatibility.
Check Run this program in compatibility mode for: and select Windows 98 / ME.
Click Apply > OK.

If it doesn't work... you're out of luck.

I just got AD 4.0 installed and working in my XP VM. You just need to get the After Dark 4.0 regfix from here.

Install -> ignore error -> apply regfix -> dada

 

I tried that, but the After Dark icon doesn't appear on the desktop. When I run it from the Start menu or its home folder, I get the Display control panel, not After Dark. Am I doing something wrong?

 

Isn't it just a collection of screensavers with a new 'After Dark' tab added to the Display properties?
From the new tab you can select one of the After Dark screensavers.

 

I tried that. I have Win10, so I don't have tabs. How else can I access After Dark?
