I see now 3 members on MG's. One in Australia, one in south Africa and I'm in Florida USA. 4:00 pm Saturday, 8:00 am Saturday and midnight Friday. How do we manage to connect? Really, sometimes the communications available with the internet is amazing.

Hehehe....I became the birthday announcer because I live in the future  and often announce birthdays one day early lolol  ......of course it all depends who is where in the world when they are reading the post o_O

The International Dateline is a complicated thing......my son's girlfriend comes from Brazil and when they go over to visit her parents it is sometimes a bit confusing. Say they leave here (Melbourne, Australia) at 10:00am on a Friday they arrive on Saturday at 6:00am after a 30 hour flight :confused:

lolol.....pity living in the future doesn't seem to help when picking numbers in Lotto or backing a winner at the races :(

The best way to predict the future is to study the past, or prognosticate.
    Not including the Lotto...

This is one thing abiut the internet I love and forums more than much of social media, twitter (lack of text to chat in one post), Facebook (cannot stand), Instagram (ok I could post my sentence in pictural form but take ages to sort out)... The fact that many of us are not in the USA and from likes af AUS, SA, UK etc (sorry for missing any out not my intention) we all get on, so what the hell are our politicians doing! we can sort out nations right here! ;o)

It's always worked well for me, because I'm almost always up and online at odd hours when hardly anyone in the US is about. People on the other side of the globe, however, are usually around to talk to. I've made some pretty good friends purely because we're awake! lol

@Sgt. Tibbs ---------- I've read that the gov't shut down was causing a down turn in theater and stage workers because of a stop to fundings to arts and such. Has it had an impact on where you work and visitors or such?

Not so much where I am at this point, because all our local arts groups already received their funding for the season, and everything else that comes through is a tour that doesn't get any funding anyhow. Depending on how long it lasts and how long it takes to get back on track once it's over it could be a different story for next season, though. This is usually when they're all applying for grants. In the mean time...

I'm so old I remember thinking being able to call anywhere in the world that had telephone service from the comfort of my own den was amazing.

The exponential increase in technology since then has never failed to stun me. Even with my nagging concern this same technology could one day wake up and proclaim "I think, therefore I am" and decide to replace us . . . I'm not at all sure I could give up the internet and my smartphone and go back to that long ago day in my den with just a simple rotary telephone.

There is no getting this Genie back in its bottle . . .

Yes, the change in technology is amazing. I remember being in Italy in the '80 and we had to wait in a queue about 30 minutes for a chance to get an overseas line back to the states to call family friends business's or what ever. And now with smart phones, computers or tablets is fairly easy to connect. Granted people have to look for the right plan or sim or app for international comms but is is still way easier. And on like this forum, I can hear and correspond with people from anywhere with no special action needed. Just my wifi card. Remember the first mobile phones? The size of the phone and the battery pack looked like something a soldier would be wearing in a war zone!
