I have never really had a problem with my pc other than a power supply until now. When I turn it on, the Asus splash screen shows up for a split second and then immediately goes to a black screen with a white cursor in the top left. I can't get into bios or anything. Please help!!!!

Is there perhaps a disk in the optical drive?

Not when it started happening. I put my windows disc in once it started doing to see if that would do anything but it did nothing.

Does your machine pass POST? (ie do you hear a beep)?

As soon as you 'power on', start tapping the Delete button to enter BIOS.
    Can you get there?

I've also been dealing with a black screen on my Asus, which initially appeared after the latest windows 10 update around Jan 23rd, which included Silverlight. Twice I've been able to restore my screen by restoring to a previous restore point.

Hope this helps uncover how to permanently fix this problem

I used an external monitor, maybe that will work for you as well?

Would love to know how you accessed a restore point from a black screen??

I attached a separate monitor as the computer is functioning.

WTF.....yeh, a bigger black screen should do the trick :p
Its not a monitor issue so black is black........I want my baby back!

If you can access bios, then you should be able to locate the boot menu (F2 or something of a kind) and attempt to boot into safe mode which if successful, you can restore from a previous point if you have set one?
Other options once in safe mode maybe a repair install etc.

Look I'm not any level of computer geek. Am only providing information that may be relevant to true geeks to use to help this individual. Plugging in an external screen is not a bad "troubleshoot" technique and in this case the external screen worked. Have not a clue about accessing bios and how that applies to this situation. Have not a clue why an external monitor works and the laptop doesn't. My comments were only meant to add details that may help someone figure out the source of the problem.

I tried it but the Asus splash goes away too fast. It will not let me into bios. Im at a loss here

The splash screen goes away soo fast, no matter how fast I push DEL it goes straight to the black screen and cannot get into bios

I have found the black screen with just a cursor is often a graphics problem. Also some W10 updates do play havoc.
Sometimes repeat restarting (control +alt+del buttons) will force a stuck update to restart on its own, or, allow you to roll back a stuck update. It has enabled me to restore a pc that as in similar state. If the buttons do not work, try holding down shutdown button for 10 second, and then restart.
Also- Try unplugging computer, pull out power cord, and then press power button for 10 seconds(removes any residual power from pc) then connect back up, and restart

I tried all of the above and still same situation. Asus splash screen comes on and immediately goes to the black screen with a white vertical line in top left of screen.

All Asus laptops and most HP devices have Asus mobo's.

We didnt receive an answer so I will ask again then,
If not, then its most likely a layer 1 issue (hardware) with either the mobo itself, RAM or another peripheral.
You will have to use a process of elimination from here.

No major attitude here, but the first question anyone should have asked is "make and model?".
AMI BIOS normally uses Delete, so unless you have tried another keyboard don't look past the basics. A bunk keyboard back in the day could halt the OS and present a no boot scenario. Or, prevent BIOS access...

Sorry, no it does not beep. I have tried taking one memory stick out, and then same with the other stick and no differance. My first instinct was the mother board, but Geek Squad said could be hard drive. I replaced that with no differance. I will just start with new custom pc since this one lasted me 7 years, cant be but soo mad

What are the system specs? 2011 isn't a "legacy" machine, but would be cool to know.

You may just want an upgrade anyway, but just for s***s and giggles, plug in an old USB keyboard, and see if you can access the BIOS.

Yeh my gut was its possibly a mobo issue, although this is quite rare in my experience!
If RAM and HDD check out as you say, my attention would then turn to graphics card and its seating in the PCI-E.
If graphics is onboard, this would probably then confirm motherboard as prime suspect No 1.

You did well having a crack at this difficult issue Joseph and I wish you good luck with the new build mate!
    Cheers
