Thank you in advance. I have an 238 GB SSD and 7 GB left. Not sure why it's so full and was wondering how to resolve this.

    Cheers

Not sure which version of Windows you are using but I think a Disk Cleanup might help.

With Windows 10 you can type "Disk Cleanup" into the Cortana search box. Run the Disk Cleanup App.

The app will make an initial run on its own. After that you will need to select the "Clean up system files" option. You will need administrator rights for this (admim password).

After the app analyzes the file system, you will have the option to select which files you want to remove. Look for "Window Upgrade Cleanup". I suspect it will be huge (like many GB's). Check that box and do an OK. The cleanup could take several hours, so please be very patient.

Personally, I don't try to use the computer while it's doing the cleanup. Also, as this process can take awhile, I make sure the computer isn't allow to go into sleep mode.

After the cleanup is complete, the dialog box will just disappear from the screen, no other notification. When it has completed, reboot the computer.

    Good luck!

I'm using Win 7. I will try and report back.

I don't think Windows 7 is nearly as bad as Windows 10 is for accumulating old files. With Win 10, it seems that there is an additional 3.2 GB's of old files after every "Patch Tuesday" update. As soon as I'm comfortable the update is working OK, I always do a system cleanup.

Good to know. Thx. I did the clean up but I didn't notice any change in space size. I didn't check off per user archive + queued windows error reporting and system archived and queued reporting. Should I clear those as well? Would steam + apps be the culprit hogging up all the space? I did uninstall the game rust from Steam and I went from 7 Gb to 25 GB free of 238GB

Your Program Files are using 93.5 GB's, 42.5% of your SSD. That's a pretty substantial chunk. You might need to consider getting rid of things you don't really need. You could get a larger SSD or possibly adding a HDD to your system and off-loading some things to it.

Am I able to run steam and games from a secondary HD? It seems like the majority of space is being used up by steam and it's apps. Also how do you add what is on your system so folks like yourself can see?

I'm sorry, I don't really know anything about steam. Maybe someone more knowledgeable could answer that. When I said off-loading things to a HDD, I was thinking about things like photos, music, videos, etc. that take up space but really don't need the fast access of the SSD. It's best to keep the games and programs, which do a lot of I/O, on the SSD.

You can add another Steam folder to any drive, there are a couple of programs around that were designed to help with the shuffling around of Steam games, Steam Library Manager might help:

I only purchased and dl rust and arma 3. Not sure why there are more? Arma 3 sometimes have addons to play on other servers, but I'm not sure how or why I have more. When I look under installed games, it only says Arma 3. I uninstalled rust yesterday.

    I suggest the following:
    • Cleanup Windows.
    • Move all your videos, music & pictures to an external HDD.
    • Install a second SSD for your Steam game(s).

Best to keep the Steam folder (where Steam's installed) as default on the Windows SSD and create a fresh Steam Library for games on the new drive - see D: and F: in my previous screenshot (though D:, which was previously the C:, is (still) the default... ).
