Hi. I have windows 10 on my laptop. With Edge browser and Firefox browser. Came to take a look at this browser-Falkon. To me it is faster then both others browsers on loading my homepage (besthomepageever). Falkon browser has a ad blocker installed with it. What I'm having trouble is finding something like the ole WOT. So if anyone else is using Falkon as a browser, please let me know what I can use to search the web safely. "Thanks'

Coffee Guy, do you know if Falkon browser is Chrome based or maybe Mozilla based? There are a good number of extensions for either one that will do what you are seeking to do. Avast has one and I believe WOT still exists in the form of an extension. In Chrome I use uBlock Origin and Netcraft (anti-pfishing). You may be able to add them to Falkon.

The absolute best with this that I have seen is an a-v called Forticlient. The FC a-v client is free and has web filtering built right into the a-v, which is right at the top of the game in terms of detection. Being enterprise grade software for office networks, it is all business and a good serious option for web protection. Only issue is that FC doesn't have anything in the way of behavior monitoring, so to get ideal results it should be bundled with Comodo Firewall or a program like CF that adds the behavior monitoring. CF doesn't use typical a-v signatures for detection...it just sandboxes applications that aren't signed properly or deemed safe by Comodo's cloud lookup feature. With Comodo you get the side benefit of the firewall which is nice.

The FC approach straight up blocks sites...no questions and no guess work. You get a block page in your browser that the site is blocked by FC and then the reason why. Also, you can still add extensions to your browser for blocking information mining or an extension like WOT for input on sites. FC is a really good program and actually now that I recall it can even be installed to include only the web filtering module->without the a-v. Excellent systemic protection from potentially dangerous sites.

I believe Falkon is a Mozilla based browser, which use to go by the name, QupZilla, therefore it should support some of the same extensions as Firefox. Wot is still around and you can find it here: https://www.mywot.com/

Hi. " Thanks for helping," but I went back to Firefox. I like some eye candy and Firefox has a lot of themes to chose from. While I was looking in Firefox, came across this "Vivaldifox" , and WOW. Talk about eye candy. Just couldn't pass that up. So here I am, back being a happy camper. Don't know how to close this question of mine. So no need for anyone to reply. "Thanks again "

Falkon is built on the Qt WebEngine.

Thanks Eldon, I think I had it confused with one of the many browsers popping up daily.

I use water fox.I had to switch over from cyberfox which is now not being supported by the creator.

Here is the link for water fox.https://www.waterfoxproject.org/en-US/

This is a pretty fast web browser right out of the box.

I am using these for blocking stuff.
    Adblock plus 3.4.3
    Popupblocker 2.0.1
    uBlock Origin 1.18.4
    Youtube's annotations no more 0.6
    No more yahoo 0.11

This setup helps with redirecting web pages. And it helps with Tab's from popping up from random webpages. You can all so block ad's through ublock by right clicking and selecting the Block element options.I normally block little picture ad's and annoying random videos that auto start.

With all these blocker features running and plugins, its still fast??

Browsers are the giants of software, I prefer to stick with the big players!
The up-and-comers will stop at nothing to grab your share.....

    Firefox works great for me.

Hey wile e, I think https Everywhere extension is still good for guaranteeing the every site is https. I have accidently ended up on a http site from time to time on a PC in the last few months, and it feels like http may as well be the equivalent of the forbidden zone in Planet of the Apes. Without encryption, the net just feels dangerous anymore.

Interesting list. If you want to take it a little bit further with uBlock, right click->Options->My filters. There paste the following and remember to Apply the changes:

    http://vxvault.net/URL_List.php
    https://gitlab.com/quidsup/notrack-blocklists/raw/master/notrack-blocklist.
    https://raw.githubusercontent.com/StevenBlack/hosts/master/hosts

Then go to Filter lists and adjust so that it looks like this:

    uBlock.png

Again don't forget to Apply changes. These are really great hosts that aren't in uBlock normally. Also, there is an extension called uBlock Origin Extra that is recommended by security types. Picked these up on a security site from someone who basically spends his entire life testing host lists.

I use uBlock Origin AtlBo and it works great especially blocking questionable sites.

For shore Nick T. The anti-malicious sites hosts are good. If you ever get a chance try FortiClient's web filtering. It's bonkers, but there are a couple of small quirks in installing and setting up everything. For just the web filtering there is a custom install option.

It's client side corporate software, so it looks basic. However, if you install the a-v module too the .config file can be saved and edited. It's in html, and there are some great enhancements you can make from inside the html. You can set the enforcement level for blocks etc.
