I have 3 firewire ports on my pc. I have some external hard drives that are USB 2.0. Would it hurt the USB hard drives if I used a USB to firewire adapter to connect them to my firewire ports?

Would they run at the speed of a firewire connection?

Also, do I need a firewire male to a USB female adapter or a firewire male to a USB male adapter?

    Probably not.
A better alternative would be to install a USB expansion card.

I have a WD Elements 8Tb Hard Drive that is USB 2.0 and is very slow. I have a USB port for it but I was hoping that if I connected it with an adapter to one of my firewire ports, it would run faster. But I guess it makes sense that a USB 2.0 hard drive can't run any faster than a USB 2.0 hard drive no matter how it's connected. Thanks for your input.
