The keyboard of my ASUS UX303L is gradually getting worse with more keys not working as time progresses. I have purchased a new keyboard and have one more cord to remove before I can star assembling the new keyboard and would be grateful if anyone could tell me how to remove it, does it just slide out like the one next to it or is there a trick I am not aware of. If it slides what part slides the white plastic bit with the red mark or just the bit with the +- on it? Photo attached. Any assistance would be appreciated. Brian DJ

Perhaps I shouldn't claim success too soon. After my keyboard install and before I refitted the rear section of the case I tried the computer and it worked fine. After completion of the assembly I took the computer back inside the house ( I work on things in my caravan so I can leave everything lying around and know they won't be disturbed) and when I started it all "seemed" fine, but then I discovered the left and right mouse clickers did not operate, but the mouse pad did work, so I could move the arrow around. Since then I have pulled it apart a lot of times, done different things and EVENTUALLY I have discovered that when I insert and tightened one of the small screws that attach the rear cover near the mouse pad, the left/right clickers don't work again. When I remove this screw things work again. My deduction is that the black rubber "whatever" that is nearby must touch the rear case when I tighten the screw and that causes the problem. Sure I can leave that screw out, but I don't want to do that so I will insert a photo with a red circle around the part and I would like to know what it is and what it does. I had to unstick this part from the old keyboard and restick it on to the new keyboard and perhaps it is not sticking/fitting as flush as it originally did, who knows? Anyway I would be very pleased if someone could identify the part for me. Brian DJ

While I'm aware you've fixed the problem - the keyboard sounds somewhat defective. As a Consumer, even if the warranty has run out, surely you can contact the company/manufacturer about the problem?

Just doesn't sound right to me...only a thought.

The touch pad and left/right buttons were not part of the new keyboard, they are part of the original 3 year old computer. It works perfectly without the one screw inserted and tightened down, so I have inserted the screw and only tightened it a little and put some tape over it in case it loosens further and falls out and the machine is working perfectly. After MUCH experimenting "there is no doubt in my mind???" that when this particular screw is tightened the case back touches the rubber block I have shown in the photo that is attached to the mother board by a lead, it causes the problem. What about inserting a fibre washer inside which will create some space as clearly there is some contact otherwise

I have already pasted a couple of thicknesses of tape between the main case and the back cover and inserted the screw loosely and pasted a piece of tape over the screw to stop it loosening further and falling out, but I really want to know what the part is and what it is for and then perhaps I will remove it and if feasible sand a little off the mounting side so it is a little shorter. The fastening screw is very short and will not allow and significant gap between the back and main frame. Brian DJ

Unfortunately the photobucket link is not working (for me).

This is most probably a standard M type screw used on many laptops and such which can be purchased cheaply on ebay in a slightly longer length
