A Load Of Css Files On My Computer Have Weird Codes In Their Filenames

I've just discovered that a lot of the css files in the phpBB extensions folder that I have on my computer have these really weird codes attached to their filenames, just after the .css extension. Things like #353C42E5FA60E98F What could they mean and what could have caused them?

EDIT: I've just discovered it's not just affecting css files, but also html files in the extensions folder.

EDIT: Oh and txt and json files. A whole load of different file types suddenly have all this gibberish on the ends of their filenames.

What's the point of defining what a CSS file is? That doesn't solve my problem. I'm not asking what a CSS file is.

Jesse...you asked for a reply...you didn't express a specific request about it. All you did was state that you had a lot of them.
Are you running a phpbb forum?

A specific request about what? What do you mean? A specific request about the reply? Isn't it obvious what I want? I want help. Didn't you read my original post? A load of files in that folder suddenly, from out of nowhere, got weird codes attached to the ends of their filenames, making them ccompletely unusable unless I manually delete the weird codes. I'm looking for someone to tell me what could have caused them, how to get rid of them quickly without having to manually edit each and every file, and how to prevent them happening again in the future.

But help with WHAT??? Specifics....getting rid of them??
At least now you are asking the questions you should have originally stated!!
So , along those veins...do you run a phpBB forum...which is where those files would have come from....if not, then feel free to delete them.

    I did originally state them!

And of course I run a phpBB forum. Why else would I have a phpBB extensions folder on my computer? I didn't ask why do I have a phpBB folder on my computer. What is a phpBB folder? I said what are all these weird codes that have suddenly appeared at the ends of all these filenames? jesus...

You mean like the part where you left out that you run a phpBB forum?? THAT IS WHERE THEY COME FROM!! Is that simple enough for you?? They didn't come from visiting starbucks!!

Oh JESUS!!!!!!!!!!! I'm not ASKING where the files came from! I'm asking where the weird codes on the ends of their filenames came from!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! JESUS, why didn't you read my original post?!

Now where do you think they came from?? It distinguishes one from another..they can't all have the same extension. Like a downloaded jpeg file: 50531571_10156495212916919_862890974517395456_n (1)

Jesse..it's late, I am very tired and I have no idea why your are obsessing about file extension nomenclature.

Of course they can! If I have a folder full of jpg files, they'll all have the extension .jpg, won't they?! I'm asking why the hash codes?! Where did they come from?! What does #353C42E5FA60E98F mean and why did it and a bunch of codes like it suddenly appear on the ends of all of these filenames?! Like test.css#353C42E5FA60E98F instead of just test.css?!

The filenames are randomized by phpBB and stored without a standard file name extension (like .jpg).
The files contents are not meant to be opened directly, but only to be called using the proper function within phpBB itself.

Either that, or Aliens have taken control of your PC!

    Your Forum Software
They signify a file different from the other files....
If you are still not satisfied, I suggest you contact your Forum Software owners and ask them. Or send a message to philipp.

What doesn't make sense to me about that is that I never uploaded these files to the server I have my phpBB account on. I just downloaded them to my computer from the extensions section of the phpBB website, and when I downloaded them, they were all normally named files, like test.css or test.txt ot test.html or test.json or whatever. But then suddenly, one day I open the folder I have all these files in, and these weird hash codes have all suddenly appeared at the ends of the filenames. test.css#weirdcode Even though I've done nothing to any of the files. That's what's worrying me.

    Read the above post.

christ... All that's needed to signify a different file is a different file NAME. If I have a folder full of .css files, as long as they have names like test1.css, test2.css, test3.css, there shouldn't be any problem. These files DO all have different names, but they also, SUDDENLY, have all these weird hash codes at the ends of the filenames, just AFTER the extension part, where before there were no weird hash codes, and I've done nothing to these files. jesus christ, you just don't bother reading my posts properly!

First time you mentioned this.....so, once again...contact the software owners and ask them. Or contact philipp and ask him.

    WHAT?!

You didn't BOTHER to READ my FIRST POST!

Yes, you did say this....only there was no mention of what had preceded this .... that it was a sudden change!!
I replied to you because you were complaining about no one replying to your post....I am beginning to understand why. I will not make that same mistake in the future...contact philipp.

Of course it was a sudden change! Why would I have set up the thread otherwise?! That it was a sudden change was implied by the very existence of the thread! JESUS...

I have no idea and phpBB doesn't install on my development server:
My best guess that they are some css cache files (probably minified?). Have you checked the content of the files?

  24. Jesse Newell

    Jesse Newell MajorGeek

I don't know why they'd be cache files. They were perfectly normal when I first downloaded them, then these weird hash codes appeared. I cannot figure out what happened. And I don't know what minified means.

Dude, your wasting your energy for zero return.

Its all about the platform being able to deliver content to you dynamically and the platform will alter any files it sees fit in order to do so, example......cascading style sheets configure on the fly depending on the need to fill a type of request that is sent to the server from your browser .....in order to render content, !
Its very unlikely that its a malicious script to cause, if thats what your getting at?

Focus your efforts on learning more about Cyber Security because you certainly have the curiosity it takes!

You don't understand. I never uploaded these files to any server. I never accessed them through any browser. I downloaded them to my computer. They were perfectly normal when I downloaded them. I never touched them or used them in any way. I just downloaded them so I could use them later on. But on the day when I tried doing that, I opened up the folder and those weird hash codes had appeared out of nowhere.
