Updating Win Home 10/64 1903 And Losing Files...

greetings,
I have been helping a neighbour with a lenovo laptop updating his OS to Win Home 10/64 1903.
After it had completed we ran a system disk cleanup and it released 32GB of disk space.
Unfortunately the download folder has been replaced with an empty one. All of his downloads have dissapeared!
Lucky his photos are all still present.

Has anyone come across this happening and is there a way to get the files back?

Yes, its an issue with new Windows disc cleanup in Updates as you need to de-select the downloads folder before running it.

I followed the instructions and it found thousands of files. I recovered the users/name/downloads section which seemed promising. Unfortunately the recovered pdf files did not open correctly.
Oh well. I should have made a backup before clicking on the Update System in the Settings/Updates.
I just wanted to save time...

Bugger......there are a few good tools online (freeware) you could use to repair corrupted .pdf's

Might be worth a shot.
