    Afternoon,

I'm trying to use my dvd rw drive and this is the error message I keep getting:
D:/ The directory name is invalid.
I have tried to update it via Device Manager with no luck. Any help would be
greatly appreciated. PC specs below as well:

    Lenovo All In One
    Intel(R) Pentium(R) CPU G3220T @ 2.60 GHZ
    4.00 GB Ram
    64 bit - OS X 64-based processor

something else to try, just uninstall the driver under device manager, reboot and windows will automatically reinstall it.

If on Windows 10, this seems to possibly caused by an update, so disable, and then enable device as harmless suggests is worth a try.

hmmm, the general consensus when i googled the problem was to uninstall the driver and reboot, or disable the device, reboot, re-enble. not sure what else to say. my only other random thought ... would be to assign the DVD drive to a different drive letter, like the letter Q or some other unused letter, in the hope that maybe the problem is associated with only "D" -> something stupid happened in the registry, and assigning a different drive letter to it might create a new proper entry or rewrite/correct the old one. i'm out of ideas, but may you have the good luck with it.

I would look a a couple of things- Also try advanced system care free versin- in its toolbox it has a Winfix check/fix https://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/advanced_systemcare.html
System file checker - try our majorgeeks (Eldon) https://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/sfc_utility.html
Chkdsk again- try our majorgeeks (Eldon) https://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/checkdiskgui.html
Also a driver update program- I use iobit driver booster, myself. https://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/iobit_driver_booster.html

All of the drivers for optical devices have been built into Windows for over 20 years now so trying to "update" them is a fruitless task.
On the other hand, all optical drives depend on lasers being reflected off of the media's surface and those lasers decay with time as well as any spec of dust in the reflective path will cause dysfunctionality. The age old test is to use a commercial CD or DVD and to then boot into Safe Mode. If Windows Explorer won't open the drive's contents and let you look at it, the drive is probably toast. You can try blowing the dust out with a can of blow-off; but, if that doesn't fix it, you need a new drive which ought to be less than $20.00.

    D:\ or D:/ ?

"/" is not a valid character to use in Windows folder or file names. That would explain the error message.
