I have two PC's in my network. I have a DSL modem and a wireless router. I noticed using my wireless connection to my cell phone, it is sometimes too slow to connect.
I then tried a ping test from my pc and had times of close to or over 1000ms. I contacted my provider, we did some troubleshooting and determined my network card was bad.
    Network card replaced, same slowdown.

Further testing of the modem on my own, I connected my device straight to the modem with the same results. Then I connected my wife's pc directly to the modem and got ping times of around 50ms.

I have checked the modem, it is ok. And I have replaced my network card, so I assume it is ok. What do I look for now?

What are you trying to accomplish?
I see -hook your computer up to wireless - is direct (wired) a hazard because of wires on the floor ect ect ?
I see -hook your phone up to wireless - is it an iphone and needs to update --iphones have to be powered on , and on wireless connection to update though I've never understood this requirement.

Maybe I confused this. I discovered the problem because my wireless was slow, using iPhone. What was really slow was the connection to my PC to the modem. I have very slow ping times connected directly to my modem. I have taken everything else out of the circuit.
I also ruled out the cable. I ran a different cable from my wife's pc to the modem and have ping times of 50ms, Mine using the same cable the ping time can be as high as 1000ms. So I think that rules out the modem as being a problem. I have a new network card with the latest driver on the machine.

    Thanks

    I don't see '10 listed as a supported OS.

So it could be my new network card. It isn't for windows 10. My guy that sold it to me knew I had windows 10 so I am surprised. Ill try the IOBit driver booster. And go see about a new network card.

So if I need a new card, Windows 10 and PCI slot, any suggestions?

IMandy, this network connection has been disabled for a long time. Board: ASUSTeK Computer INC. M4A88T-M/USB3 Rev X.0x

I have a TG-3269 installed now. It is a PCI board plugged into the motherboard

IOBit found an update for the network card. I am installing it now. Will check back later tonight. Thank

There are some better times after a driver update and a reboot, but it is still pretty poor. Last ping was 697ms average times.

What about a network card that says it is Windows 10? There is o updates for the motherboard, but the internet has worked good for years. This has been a gradual slowdown. I just decided it was time to do some checking.

Checking out for tonight, have to be out early in the morning. Thanks

As per the specs you posted - Windows 10 was installed 13 June 2019.
Is your wife's PC running Windows 10?

To which site are you sending the echo (ping) request?

Eldon, June 13 might have been a big update for Win 10, it has been installed since it was released. Yes wife's is Win 10. Pinging 8.8.8.8

Had someone here take a look. Thinks it is too many programs accessing the internet at the same time. backup programs, photo uploads, gsync syncing my calendars from outlook to gmail etc. I have disabled most of these and have ping times of 150-200 ms now. Much better.

I will turn on one of these startup programs at a time to see who is dragging me down.

Note on the screenshot in #6 that win10 is not listed, so it will take a little work on your part to perfect it.

On some of the background task, for all the tiles and apps you don't plan on using, you can disable their connection to the net in your windows firewall. Disable in both inbound/ outbound rules.

This tells us there's nothing wrong with the modem or cable.
The problem is clearly with your PC.

Don't rely on the ping results.
This morning I pinged 8.8.8.8 and the result was 62ms. A few minutes ago it was 821ms.

Is there a better way to test? I do see better speeds now with my list of startup items not started. I have NetUptime monitor installed that will ping three different IP addresses. They were all slow before i made the change.

Imandy, number 6 is the motherboard, for the network I am using a plug in. I have had the PC for many years now, it was before Windows 10 was out so the motherboard is old.

I have used it as well. When my ping times were so slow, even Speet test would not connect!

My DSL is pretty slow to start with, I get 4- Meg download
