Just purchased a brand new HP with Windows 10--- Intel Core i5 8th Gen--8GB memory--256 GB RAM--haven't even plugged it in yet. Asking for advice on what I should do for maintaining it's health/preventative maintenance. Thanks---Steve

Will assume you meant 256GB SSD.

Leave the defaults alone (except any default passwords). They work. Windows Defender works. Don't be "click-happy" on unsolicited emails, links, attachments, downloads or popups.

Use a secondary scanner, regardless your primary scanner, just for double checking. I recommend Malwarebytes for that. If running the full trial, or you buy Malwarebytes premium, go into its control panel under Settings and check "Never register Malwarebytes in the Windows Action Center" to keep Windows Defender enabled.

Restore points are not automatic. They happen only with major changes - particularly with hardware drivers.
