Suspect Email Attachment

I received an email (through Gmail) with a pdf attachment that Gmail (or Firefox) has yellow alerted as the attached pdf is encrypted. Meaning I have to click a 'Looks safe' button to unlock the attachment.

The password is supplied with the email. With no other content from the sender saying who they are, what theyve sent etc.

It's pretty much a no brainer that this is some sort of malware. There's an outside possibility it is something work related sent by someone incompetent.

I wondered if the attachment could be safely downloaded and then opened on a closed system where the virus/malware can be contained and any damage it does doesnt really matter. If the act of freeing up the attachment in itself is the trap than of course I'm not touching it.

Thanks but that's all a little over my head. The email tool wanted me to pay money to get the answer. If I used the IP search corrcctly I got this IP address: 100.96.14.157

But I couldnt see a way of getting anywhere further with that info.

I emailed back just to ask who they were and what they sent. Unless it's a believable reply I'm ignoring the attachment.

 

I saw no such 'offer' via any of the links in the URLs I posted; maybe an advert, perhaps your browser's already infected?

If you can't follow those instructions, I question whether you should even consider chasing up an email with a suspect attachment from an unknown sender. Just delete the email.
