Ok i have a new system built on Ryzen 7 finally. But i still hate loath windows 10.If you have a M.2 SSD drive like me.Windows 7 will not recognize your M.2s for reasons being that all the hardware is newer then the os.But there are work arounds.

    Watch video here below.

Here is one link you will need.Could not find it else where. If you have a Gigabyte motherboard.https://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threads/gigabyte-windows-7-usb-installation-tool.249384/

Thanks for this. I too prefer Windows 7. Linux is really good, though. Have you tried Manjaro? It's Arch based and updates on a rolling basis so no need to reinstall the OS. Yeah, it's kind of annoying that there are little things to do to get Linux to the exact right place. Definitely, there is some research and Googling to do. However, at least on Manjaro the OS seems much more out of the way when running programs than Windows. Processor pegs at 0-2% at idle, seems considerably lower overall, and core use seems more balanced with multiple cores. As a result, for me, video is streaming much better than in 7.

I'll still take Windows 7 over Windows 10 personally, but my perception and what I am hearing is that Linux may already be better than Windows 10 as far as optimization goes. Software compatibility with Windows software is rising super fast now. Within a year, I think Linux will overtake Windows with serious computer users. Just need to make the configurability fully the asset it can be...AND NO SPYING...guaranteed!

If ya get worried about W7 security-wise, wile e, good to know there will be something else there!

BTW, very nice rig you have there! I'm thinking of building a kind of a retro system. I'd like to use an old 3930k processor (crazy bench for the era) and an RX 580. Anyway, I may break down and use the Ryzen 3700x CPU, with the 3930k processor such a power hog at 135w. 3700x is only 65w and double the bench. Hoping I can get to this sometime next year, but...

Thank's I have been working on finding parts that work the last few month's.Seems Gigabyte boards are the way to go when it comes to ryzen. The last two MSI boards i bought they where DOA.And i rarely get DOA boards.I all so buy parts new never used.

I am using a Western Digital 1TB M.2 And other SSD's for games.I keep the major big games off the main windows SSD for speed purpose.

    Edit the Ryzen 7 is a 2700x. Run's at 3.70 ghz.

And no i am not worried about security. My systems are online 24 /7 and never have an issue.I rarely come into contact with any type of malware or virus.Even if i would,I would just reinstall windows fresh lol.

After trial and lot's of problems.I am finally able to use Windows 7.Took me all most 6 hours to get this dam thing to work properly.First i had to spend like 1 hour or 2 figuring out why Bios would not update. And the reset of the time was messing around with the freaking drivers causing issues.I was trying to eliminate issues with drivers that where causing mouse and key board not to work or respond.

Man i never had such a hard time installing any windows. And yes this Windows 7 is currently installed on my M.2 SSD.

If you use windows up date it will pop up this message.
    Capture.PNG

What that means is your cpu is unsupported. But there is away around this. If you want to download the updates.

WSUS Offline Update is the best way to go.It downloaded 188 updates.

It's best just to disabled windows update to avoid that annoying popup through services.

I agree I am not a linux user for reason's.I can't seem to wrap my head around that Software.but i do agree that Linux is far better then windows 10 Hands down.Windows 10 was a major mistake should have not seen the light of day. They should have stuck with some thing that works. And Microsoft made tons of money off of windows 7 compare that to windows 10.The only reason why windows 10 surpassed windows 7 in user base because microsoft did sneaky shit.Like Auto install windows 10 with out permission.

That is one of the worst ideas.Ever.

Great job. That should be interesting :)...

It goes back to the first time MS reverted privacy changes with updates and so on. I agree 100% with you, forced updates and spying are awful for computing. Always thought MS decisions since 8 have seemed tragic.

wile e, have you ever tried using Linux for an extended period of time? You've probably said before in a thread, but I can't recall. I think it's great for a dual boot setup now, but I think I would recommend setting it up on a second drive in a Windows machine. I installed the grub onto the second drive so that it wouldn't mess up Windows. So I can boot in from time to time and learn. It's very peaceful in contrast to the bedlam of MS unethical practices. The best part about Linux is the ability to piece together basically anything. It's unbelievably configurable, when considering that every element of the OS can be changed with another or even simply removed, etc. What surprises me the most is that even rolling updates in Manjaro seem to be reliable. I haven't had any problems so far after thousands of file/app updates.

Hope you will keep us up to date on how W7 is doing on your PC. That's probably the same way I will do things if I get a chance to put together the system I mentioned. Really nice what you have there. Can't get over how powerful the Ryzens are...

Just a little tip about the ryzen buy either a after market cooler or water cooled. These cpu's can run warm if not properly vented.

I'm a stickler about the PC running cool, so I will take your advice if I go down the Ryzen road. Definitely will go with W7, so really appreciate all the information here, even if it is about Ryzen...
