problem: the 'cloning' softwares does not let me 'clone' the hdd to the sdd

    question #1: why?

    the disks looks like this:

    https://imgur.com/a/bDw1QSf

    - hdd with w10 installed, is activated
    - hdd is disk 1
    - sdd is disk 0
    - did the windows updates

is laptop, nothing really on it yet

dunno which is faster, to do clean install on ssd and do updates again, or just clone

question #2: has anyone done this kind of thing recently?

question #3: are there any good articles or youtubes that tells us what we're suppose to do?

the general sites just says one option is to use the cloning software, but they dont tell explain to us what we're suppose to do
another option seems to be 'system image' but that seems extremely complicated with so many steps

It isn't possible to do what you want while running Win 10.

I use and recommend Minitool Partition Wizard for this job. Read THIS.

are you saying it's not possible to do this on w10 no matter what software you use?

Please ignore this. Of course it is possible - just follow the link I gave you. Apologies.

there's no 'clone' option on that

so i cant test it that way it works differently, dont know how it works actually cos it doesnt give you steps on how to use it

    what is this related to?
    like is it about cloning?
or some other way of doing the goal?

does anyone know which drive is the os currently running on?
    really important to know this

I find that Partition Wizard is really easy to use to clone with, as you simply click on disk I, and follow instructions through to clone to disk 2- However if you have EaseUs , then s Eldon said- read through the info several times, and downlosd the pdf that they offer, before proceeding.

Your EaseUS shows disc 0, and disc 1-Both show content.
To copy a whole hard drive (clone) -you need n empty harddrive to copy to, or, you need to format that other hard drive prior to cloning.
Copy partition is also better with a clean second hard drive- I do a lot of tinkering, and I have never tried copying a Windows partition to a hard drive that already had data, or, other on it.
    Perhaps someone else has ????.....

If your disk with W10 on is the 250 gb, and the new ssd disk is the 1tb, then your disc with W10 on is the 250(238 on above)
Cloning would saave you a lot of time.

@baklogic Win 10 is on C on disk 1, but the boot files are on disk 0. It's an unusual setup in my experience and not amenable to cloning. A full reinstall would be preferable imo.

My apologies, I might not have explained enough in post #14.
Obviously, if your original disk is the 1tb,then , and the new disk is a NEW ssd with around 250gb, then ,W10 is obviously
    Ouch ! -- Yes, I agree - I missed that- I realize the ssd is the 250gb, now,
So, I would think that hdd2ssd must have had both hard drives connected somehow to do that.
I totally agree re-install is the only option.
HDD2SSD -Disconnect second 1tb hard drive, and re-install W10 on the ssd

    disk 1 = hdd

so that means w10 is on the hdd

so couldnt we just do clean install on ssd if os is in hdd?

isnt that way simple and easy also or no?

if w10 is on hdd why does ssd say 'system' in the image in op if the os is on the hdd?

As I said previously- system and boot should be on one hard drive, or, ssd-
Did you have the ssd connected when you installed W10 ?
That looks like it may have been done.
Yes that is what Earthling, and I are saying- just disconnect the 1TB hard drive, AND RE-INSTALL ON THE SSD.

You don't understand Microsoft's terminology. System means the partition containing the boot files. Boot is the partition Windows is currently booted to and running from Confusing init?

Follow baklogic's advice and remove the HDD before installing Win 10.

    laptop came with 2 drives
    it did it by itself
is it suppose to do that?
if so why does it do it that way?

would w10 run faster when using it when it's on ssd?

what's on the ssd? is there anything needed for w10 on the ssd right now?

are we able to reinstall on it, and the w10 on the hdd would still work?

  23. baklogic

    baklogic The Tinkerer

    Definitely

No,-no system files - as they are on the ssd.
If you want to clone the ssd, to the hdd, after re-installing W10, then you can just use EaseUS, or, Partition Wizard to do so, but do you need to ?, or, just use it as a data drive, and if you want to keep speed on the ssd, you can always come back, and we can show you how to direct all data, and downloads-even the documents folder onto the hdd, if you wish. Windows 10 will build up horrendously with updates, so if you want speed, (and avoid clutter), that could be your way forward.
Also, you could probably make a recovery partition, on the ssd, in case of problems.

If Windows gives grief, you could recover without touching your data-Just think on it, and come back as separate posts on items to get more help-There are some exceptional geeks at Majorgeeks, who will always do their best to help.

The only question I have is why are you trying to install W10 onto a second drive? Are you having problems with 10? If not, what is the point of this exercise?
