I don't know what the shops are like. I will only go on Monday. Fortunately we are within walking distance from 5 supermarkets and 3 pharmacies.
Many small companies and people working for themselves are going to suffer badly because of the lock down.

Trump is still stumbling around. Saying why does NY need 30,000 respirators and then forcing thru the Defense Act GM to start manufacturing them....when he had retreated from that when he found out the cost a week or so ago....He still is suggesting people come out for Easter.....but he won't send his kids out to test the waters first...LOL!!

NYC is pretty much warzone triage, and it's not so slowly spreading out to Long Island. New Orleans should have canceled Mardi Gras, highest death rate per capita. And, just think about all those revelers returning home. Anyone recall the credits in of "Rise of the Planet of the Apes"? Not as severe, but you get the point.

Unfortunately despite all warnings and studies, they went unheeded and we are woefully unprepared to handle this outbreak. Good people are dying. Too many...

The interactive map i linked in post #28 is updated constantly and accurate. You can pan over a large area on the map and then zoom down to local area. It shows my area of Panama City Florida (Bay County) with 4 active cases. That's 1 more than what had been on local news for the past couple days, so we have gained 1 active case tonight. Fairly accurate.

Meanwhile our govn'r is stopping all short-term rentals and checking vehicle traffic entering the state for unwanted carriers! Even people who own 2nd homes here are being asked to self-isolate for 14 days on arrival.

Times are hard and getting harder....

I'm in Canada and the virus has hit the country as well... My heart goes out to the people in the US whom were hit real hard with this killer virus. I'm one of the essential services people that must work regardless. I am 62 yrs old and to be honest, I am scared shitless !! I pray that everyone on this planet keep your distance with others to offset the spread of the virus and of course wash your hands and disinfect everything. Stay safe everyone !

My 12 year old grandson keeps asking to come over and for the first time in his life he has heard us say no. He says he is fine so where is the problem? As I have explained more than once he can have the virus without knowing it and pass it on to us. My husband is a liver transplantee so has no immune system and is at a high risk of dying from the virus.
I think he has finally got the message but the problem with kids is boredom. They have so much to amuse them, in my youth we had the radio, books, cards and board games. I am only glad I am not a parent in today’s world, my poor daughter in law!

That is an issue we're having to tackle with our 2 year old as well. It's challenging to say the least, but he does really love video-calling his grandparents and aunts and uncles.
In between that I was still working from home, but due to the corona crisis I've been let go, so that's done too. Kind of surreal. I went from being promised a permanent position to hearing they had to let me go, within a week. I get it, but it still sucks.

So now my days are spent looking after a 2 year old. We usually go outside for a bit to the local playground but only if there's no one there. We also drive around the countryside each day, and we play a lot of games, read books, colour and clay and watch Peppa Pig, Mightly Little Bheem and Kikker (local cartoon about a frog). He's currently napping. That's the best part of the day to be honest. It really takes a lot of energy such a little one and I'm still recovering from nearly dying last year from a severe sepsis, so his nappy time is usually my nappy time.

The wife works as an MD PhD, so she's at work. New hospital policy just came through that pregnant MD/RN are not allowed near the corona wards and corona ICUs, so that's good. She's now redeployed to the ER and Oncology (cancer patients are kept at the other end of the hospital and completely isolated from anything to do with corona, even their food comes out of a different kitchen these days). They've already cancelled every non-critical appointment until the end of May and it's likely they'll cancel the whole of June as well. This is going to be a long one, but luckily our measures seem to have been somewhat effective. I don't want to know what would have happened had we not been into "smart lockdown" as relatively quickly as we did.

One thing that is a bit of a challenge is shopping. Not due to empty shelves any more, but due to having to keep your distance and grocery shops now employing door policy of a maximum of 10 to 20 customers in the shop at a time. As a result, people have been ordering online so those slots are all filled up now. The only option we have is a pick up point that's a 45 minute drive, but we do have to eat.

Thanks Tim - we have all got to be so vigilante, my daughter has been in Hospital for 7 days now, so, it's a crucial period- the next day , or two will be particularly worrying- praying hard....
My wife and I have been self isolating as per advice....
We need your expertise in Malware fighting somehow to be applied to this... (if only...)
So difficult as her husband, and two sons are really going through it- not being able to see, or ,visit -same with us- it is really worrying. Obviously the son in law could not even go in the ambulance with her.
Police are now driving around, and foot patrolling to try to enforce the idiots that think lock-down does not need them, and these idiots can be fined (I would like to see something worse done to them, as they could be liable to keep spreading it.

Currently my office is closed and we will be allowed to reopen again once lock down is lifted. Where I live, we only have 14 confirmed cases out of almost 600K people who live here, so we are doing pretty good.

    Hope everyone is doing well.

I got my drivers license (which was both terrifying and exciting ) , I was taking courses online (and got my certification but I don't know if I'll ever get to use it ), I have changed jobs and I moved. Oh and I took up running and my sister and I do different marathons (although to be honest, we don't run in the marathons lol ).

Me? I'm paralyzed on the left side and the wrong side of 60, so I'm doing everything but pulling the covers over my head! Fortunately my new to me computer has proved to me my WiFi is not as slow as I thought it was. The old slow machine is finding useful service in my living room while I try new things trying to figure out peer to peer networking Win 10 style, so its not all doom and gloom for us geeks. Stay safe, folks! Know of any interesting games for a broke, one armed chick?

South Africa's 21-day lockdown seems to be working. We have 1280 cases and 2 deaths.
I live in Port Elizabeth (950,000 people), the largest city in the Eastern Cape Province (6.7 million people). The province has 12 registered cases.

Nope. You both still have sharp minds. Look at Steven Hawking!

We've had our first death in my county. It was a 94 year old woman who was in hospital for 2 days.

My husband and I are in our 70's and he has health issues so we are washing and wiping services and staying close to home. He does some yard work. I stay in the house. I've been streaming tv shows on Hoopla.

Opportune time to be doing all those neglected projects around the house and in the garage (like actually cleaning it ). Spring is here, popped the spark tester on the bike after no start (orange spark is bad) and ordered a couple coils. Dropping the engine out of the PT for timing belt/water pump etc. soon. And yes, it gets hoisted down onto a dollyo_O. Jeep is 90% done. And, still finding time to stop by.

We picked up a file cabinet for the warehouse the other day, and paid the guy cash. He was worried (in NY) about transmission. We picked the cabinet out of the basement, and he asked me to leave the money on the wall/rail next to the basement steps.

I told him "It's stinkin' like I've been drinkin'", and he looks at me funny and says "You sterilized the cash?" (denatured ethanol).

    "YES SIR"

Hey all, some testing times ahead and I'm playing catchup with this tread

Fleppen - really hope you all well my friend
Baklogic -glad your daughter is out but still I guess needs alot of monitoring but likely better at home than in hospital
Eldon - good that things not so bad in SA, one of the consultants I work with is SA and keeping track of his family.
    Wendy- keep safe
Dyamond - glad to hear your OK

    TimW think your zombie proof!

I've been busy, mostly working from home, family are all ok but parents are a little worried as I work in a hospital and my office is on same floor as infectious diseases, but as a HUB in the UK for the weird and funky we have had Ebola and all here so quite ok to handle this but its a little more aggressive than seasonal flu, although that has high mortality rate yearly, no death is good.
Was in work on friday and seemed from the previous week way way more folk in afternoon on road and out walking in groups (not in morning as I drive to work at 6:30 am, no sane person is up at that hour), needed to be in for updating a clinic, seems we have and rightly so posponed the screening and the drug we are screening folk on is hydroxychloroquine, used in a few ways, I do work in malaria and have done for 7yrs and also a new screening clinic for past 1yr as this is used for likes of Lupus (can affect lungs) hence thought it may help lessen the effects if mid to moderate.

Also in for main bit which was video conference with a pharma we are working with and TBH we all said WTH do we not do more of these as after 2hrs we got more sorted than a full day, we did chat over COVID19 and way forward and what could we do in future.

I wish you and families all safety and keep hands washed and 2m distance from strangers, taser the buggers if they get close!

    Hi DavidGP
Nice to hear from you, I wondered how you were doing ,and how much contact you might have had with it - Good to hear you are O.K.
Thank you for your concern regarding my daughter -fingers crossed, she is still improving daily- Apparently she had morphine injections for the pains in her kidneys , antibiotics, and whatever else for the Coronavirus -and we honestly had little sleep and mental relief until she was allowed home (in isolation) -terrifying.
We have a friend with Lupas,so we do understand the possibilities you say about Lupas, and Malaria treatment possibilities.
I had been reading on-line about different possibilities in treatment (especially whenthe daughter was in hospital)- and I cannot remember which bit of news(I tend to look allover the worldfor some things) but I vaguely remember hydroxychloroquine among the possibilities they were trying Great efforts, mate.
    Keep safe.

Sunday entertainment.....Drive belt keeps slipping off of transmission pulley on the riding mower.....so for the third time, removed the mower deck to put the belt back on noticed that the belt angles up off the pulley!! Strange.....so drove the deckless machine to the concrete pad and started taking the transmission off.....both mounting brackets were cracked/torn allowing the transmission to tilt forward. The brackets are a part of a larger plate welded onto the frame.

Monday's entertainment.....go to the local welder and show him pictures and see if he can fabricate a mount and weld them on......( Diane needs to get out of the damn house and stop making me fix her mower!!!! LOL )

Infection rates are still increasing in my state. They haven't posted today's numbers yet but we have over 11,500 in Pennsylvania.
We've basically been told to stay home and schools have been closed since mid-March.
Looking at China's numbers, they seemed to increase for 4 months. So I expect we will still be dealing with this in the US for several more months.

I'm not convinced that China is reporting accurately. Numbers might still be increasing there.

Eldon, you don't have the travel problem we face in the US.

We had 3 deaths, in my county, over the weekend. Two of the people who died traveled in from New York and Connecticut.
The person was tested positive in CT and decided to come to PA. Probably had another person drive him/her; maybe even family in the car.
The person from NY took a test here and was found positive.
Another problem, people from other states have 2nd homes in the Pocono Mts. of PA and decided to travel to the 2nd home. They go into grocery stores and spread germs. I talked to a friend on the phone who lives close to the Pocono area and she told me that's why the numbers are climbing in one of the counties.
