    hi,
I am trying to repair an Acer Aspire v3-571 laptop
when booting up the laptop windows fails to load, It gets to a black screen and the mouse pointer.
The laptop then reboots showing diagnosing your PC with he Acer logo
Next windows shows a blue screen Automatic Repair - Your PC did not start correctly giving me 2 options
    1. Restart or 2 Advanced options.
selecting option 1 the system reboots attempts a self repair again.
then give me the black screen and mouse pointer

Sounds a bit like a stuck update, or, bad driver-either Realtek, or graphics
This sometimes will correct itself, if you give it some time, even if it seems to be doing nothing, just the blank black screen
I would say give it as long as 5 minutes-just leave it.
Another trick sometimes works, is to hard shutdown (power button, and restart, then restart as norml a few times-I have found this can help it kick on.
If it still won't start, try restarting and pressing f8 as soon as it starts up, and try safe mode- if that gets you in, look at event viewer to see what the fault was-possibly a driver issue- If you can get i, you could look into devices, and see if there are any yellow triangles , denoting a faulty driver- if so, try clicking roll back driver.
Let us know how you get on

    Thanks,
I have tried the hard shutdown and I cant get in to safemode.
When on the black screen with the mouse pointer it restarts after a few seconds.

Have you tried any of the "Advanced option"? You have system restore, etc...If you choose Start-up settings, you can hit restart and get to the relevant options for booting in Safe Mode are numbers, 4,5, or 6.
Select an option by pressing one of the numbers or function keys F4, F5 or F6 ....but try this guide:

The system keeps crashing and trying to repair.

So none of the advanced options are working?

The only option that works it the command prompt.
Removing feature fails, rolling back to last save point fails.
    booting to safe mode fails
is it time to reinstall windows?

Sounds like it. Once done, you should find a Windows.old file.....if there are important doc's, etc....move them to a safe place before the file expires on its own.

My apologies, I completely forgot you were in W10 -safe mode is different, and recovery works differently...
As TimW said you could get your files in a re-install

The only other thing you could try is running sfc /scannow from the command prompt, then running chkdsk /r from command prompt

Captain Drift and TimW like this.

Tried sfc - Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation
Tried chkdsk - ran through, but still now working
I have downloaded the 1909 iso from Microsoft and will reinstall from that.

Where you able to get into your bios and allow it to boot from the thumb drive?

  19. Captain Drift

    Captain Drift Corporal

Yes, I can access the bios, and boot from the USB stick, but installing From them is tricky

To run scf /scannow, in command prompt,it should be as administrator.

Installing W10 from usb is very straightforward, really.
As long as the computer will boot from usb, - when it comes up, if installing fresh, then when asked, where to put it, -first delete all partitions, leaving one unallocated space- then, format that partition, then install.
If trying to keep old files, look out for whether you can keep old files, or fresh install.
If it stays a long time on 0%-, that can happen- if too long, cancel, and try again
