so I get enough space somehow to do a reset and it goes and then after an hour it stops and says it cant reset so I give up and put on Linux then reboot and its all blank with nothing so I have win 10 on a thumb drive so I put on win ten but the htmi cable wont work and the magnifer flits around

I wonder if I need a special version of win 10 for a acer netbook aspire one 11

Have you tried the Windows 10 Update tool? You want to use the option to create install media ISO so need an empty flash drive or CD and boot into that to start the install process.

more likely it will be Windows 10 Home that would be on the acer netbook.

    You are right.

    Thread.

Probably needs to look at buying a new computer or find an XP ISO. Trying to install W10 or even upgrade hardware for W10 on this one probably isn't possible or worth it IMO. The specs say the RAM is soldered so it's not upgradable and 2gb of RAM on W10 would be super frustrating.

Yes, I see several companies selling computers for Windows 10 that should not be allowed because disk space is lacking and RAM is lacking. People look at the price, feel they got a bargain and then discover they ended up with a headache instead. You need to do a clean install every time Win 10 requires the twice yearly upgrading.

In fact, I was reading an article today that the author discovered 64GB on an android phone is no longer sufficient! Apparently google is getting as hoggy with the system files as MS is with Windows' system files.

I'd have to take issue with that! My rather new phone with Android 9 and all my personal stuff aboard is using just 33Gb. The author must be loading 2hr film releases to need that much.

Same here. I'm on Oreo 8.1 and as far as I can tell I think the OS takes up about 6gb. The newer Androids are compatible with up to 1 tb external storage.

Edit: Are you sure he was talking Android phones or was he talking Android OS on a Chromebook? I can see that argument for Chromebook but not smartphones.

When you were installing Linux onto your Netbook, did you turn off secure boot and tried using the legacy bios?

I'm not going to discount this guys complaints because he can use his phone however he wants but I think he is creating his own problems by having 170 apps installed. Apps create new system files. The OS alone isn't that big. I did some searching and depending on the model I can't find anyone saying that an out-of-the-box Android Pie OS is any larger than 12gb and as little as 8gb.

He also compares multiple phones and they are all different. That's partly on the phone carrier not Google. Google distributes the OS and the carrier adds their junk to the OS. Add 170 apps to that and the results should be that the system is taking up a lot of space.
