I posted for help in the Malware forum and after running all the programs suggested was advised
to post here for help. All the scans came up showing no malware infection or virus.

You can read my post there but basically for weeks now my pc has done nothing but constantly freeze.
It doesn't matter what browser I use and it can freeze up to a dozen times a day. For the most part I have
to manually shut down and reboot. I have the same results no matter what browser I attempt to use.

    * Is boot up slow?.....the boot is extremely slow to boot and occasionally will have a black screen before loading.
    * Is shutdown slow?.....slow to shut down and every time it freezes I have to do a force shut down.
    * Is browsing/surfing slow?....browsing/surfing are fine until it freezes.
    * Is downloading slow?....I rarely download anything.
    * Is running any application?....application run fine until they freeze.
    * Is it also slow in safe boot mode?.....I haven't ran in safe mode.
    * Also are any process showing in Task Manager to be using a lot of CPU time?....just Vivaldi browser.

As I stated I did a complete uninstall of all browser thinking it was the browser but the problem remained.

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated as always.

Yes the computer came new with Windows 10.
I had never tested the hard drive so did that as soon as I read your reply. Sadly it has failed a few things.

    Failed:

Dell suggests to replace but they don't have them available anymore for this computer. Inspiron One 20 and I am clueless what to look for.
Also it is about 6+ years old.

The hard drive size is 451. Free space is 241GB
    RAM is 400 GB.

Thank you for your help, as always appreciated.

Open Task Manager and look at what apps are using the most RAM - click on the column heading.

Vivaldi (browser) is using the most and not sure why but it has (18) next to the name.
Nothing jumps out that it is using a great deal other than Windows Defender Antivirus which I was sure I had it set to no.

Was there something particular you wanted me to look at. Never really sure about determining what should be doing what.
    Thanks.

Ran CHKDSK and chose the option to have whatever it found fixed.

I worked through everything on that list.
The System File Checker found no integrity violations.
    The DISM was successful.

Since I ran the CHKDSK it has improved a great deal. Still a tad slow loading and the freezing is about 80% less. Only one website froze and that is a great improvement. I've been keeping a eye on Task Manager as the website suggested and the three that are using the most CPU and RAM are still the same ones as yesterday.
I purchased more memory that I need to install.
Thanks for your help so far and any other suggestions are greatly appreciated.

    That's great.
    Good idea.
Let's wait until the extra RAM has been installed, and then give us an update.

Thanks so much for all your help.
I am amazed that it is working so well, much quicker loading pages and basically hasn't froze all day.
One or two very short ones but very quickly the page loaded.
Feels like a brand new machine.
Will try to install the RAM one day this week and will update.

Is it illegal to shot your computer.
Everything was working fantastic. Until a hour again.
I was reading something, it froze 3 times but they were quick, then it went to a black screen, it crashed. I shut it down and rebooted. Took forever, not sure why but two command screens came up and poof where gone, it changed the image I had set for the wallpaper/background to a old one. Finally everything loaded, froze again but this time just for a few seconds. Not sure what is wrong now. Any suggestions. I have gotten the RAM put in yet though.

Symptoms are consistent with a failing disk. If possible take a disk image ASAP. If you don't have imaging software installed then try and use the Win 7 system image feature in Backup (yes, it still works in Win 10). Be a good idea to run chkdsk again first if possible.

And post what you see in the Command Prompt window after running chkdsk.

I ran the command prompt and it states it found no problems. No further action is needed.

I will do the disk image this morning.

    Thanks

If your computer has a CD/DVD RW drive you can boot from, you should now create a system repair disk and test that you can boot to it and find your image. You can create the disk in the same Backup menu. Depending on your computer it may also be possible to restore the image through the Troubleshooting options available in shift+restart. This is important - there's not much point in having backups if you don't know how to restore them.

The other part of your suggest as to what to do I won't be able to get to until tomorrow.

The computer is 6 years old and am wondering if just replacing the drive is a better option.
Will it just continue to be a issue in the future?

    I agree.
You should replace the drive - preferably with an SSD.

Thank you so much for all your time and effort.
As soon as I read that report it pretty much cemented a new drive.
Now to find one that doesn't break the bank.
Always appreciated all the the great advice here. You and your team never fail me.

After I get the new drive and install it I'll update you.

You need to do what I advised in #21 before doing this. That is how we transfer your system to a new drive. Or you could start again with a clean install of Win 10. Up to you.

Of course. I had already completed all parts of step #21. The hard drive arrived last night so I am good to go. Hoping the install goes smoothly as I've never done one on a All In One.

I'm back. Not with good news.
Due to a accident of a drink being spilled on my desktop (I know...that's a no no!) the back up image disc that I had created are useless.
I had to order more DVD in order to create them again. No drink on desk. Went thru the process and first disc is started when I message comes up
that I can't create a back up due to errors on the partition of my hard drive. In short....exclusive lock on EF1 system parition ESP. Try again. So I did and got
the same results. Reached out to a friend and he suggested trying EaseUS ToDo Back and got the same results but in more detail. Error seems to be with Partition 4, 6 & 7. I was clueless.

I don't have a external back up and not sure what to do at this point.
I can't lose everything as I have a great deal of files that I need for my business.
I looked around online to see if there is anyway to save this train wreck.
As always, any help is fantastic.

What liquid? If water based it's possible the disc(s) will be ok if gently washed and thoroughly dried out for an hour or two at about 70F. If alcohol they may actually be ok if gently washed first and properly dried. I don't rate your chances of recreating your backup in view of the problems the HDD has.

It was hot chocolate. It went everywhere as my computer desk is also my art desk so there are tons of stuff on it. It was a good two hours before I got everything up, wiped and cleaned and didn't think they were usable so I tossed them.

    Lesson learned.
So my only other option is to back up everything manually which will take forever.

I forgot a do have a external hard drive it is USB 3.0 Hard Drive. 1 TB. I've never used it and completely forgot about it.

So I can back up my folders and images onto this?

Thank you. Just going through folders and such and trashing what I no longer need.
Keeping fingers crossed that is goes smoothly from here on.

I wanted to let you know that the installation of the new hard drive & RAM went smoothly.
Windows installed without a problem after a second try but everything is up and running. Now to install everything that was lost...programs and such.
Only hiccup was I forgot I would lose all my bookmarks....but you can't have everything.

I really can't express how thankful I am for all the help both of your provided during this ordeal. Once again, very appreciative especially all the time and patients you both took. Have a great weekend and hopefully, fingers crossed, you won't see me here for awhile.

    You are welcome. :)

In future, export your bookmarks to a file. Then you can import them when needed.

Pleased you are all sorted. I guard against situations such as yours by imaging my systems once a month, before Update Tuesday. Only takes a few minutes but can save a great deal of angst when trouble strikes.

Now that is sound advice you don't see enough of today.
    Cheers Earthling.
Plodr has also been the strong voice for this matter!
The sad fact is many don't think about a backup until they need one, but by then of-course its...….

People also do not keep a 2nd copy of irreplaceable files off the computer! They wrongly assume that no disaster will ever strike.

I taught my husband early on to make 2 copies on 2 different floppies (yes we go back that far) of his files. He has said numerous times, "that advice has saved me a lot of grief". He was a university prof at night at two different universities and learned to keep his quizzes, tests and grades off the computer. When his computer crashed, as it did a lot during the era of Win 9x, he would hop on my computer and continue to work while I tinkered with his computer.
He also had a computer in his office at one of the universities so he was able to work on things when he had to be in the office for office hours.
