This is where I come for advice and this seems like an appropriate time.

I ordered and received an Intel Core i5 CPU that was shipped in only what became a somewhat battered bubble wrap envelope. I'm quite disappointed in the choice of packaging and the condition upon arrival.

My question is, should I keep or return this item?
My inclination is to return it, but the price was better than elsewhere, and as said, 'a bird in hand is worth two in the bush'. ;)

    Is it new?

If the the hard plastic clamshell or CPU itself does not show any damage I'd keep it . . . it's doubtful just a rough knocking about would have hurt the packaged CPU. Another consideration is the seller's return policy - I don't usually purchase used electronics like CPU's, RAM, or video cards if the seller does not accept returns unless the selling price is very low. I'd take pictures of how it arrived though, and archive them.

Would agree with Spad on this.

It is annoying but if no damage to hard plastic clamshell or cpu shield then should be fine

I assume there is little to no damage to that envelope.

Is that "Intel Factory Seal" broken?

I would send your picture to the seller and hopefully they will get back to you within 24 hours (this is the weekend). You need to be on record that it arrived in that condition.

Hopefully the seller will respond quickly, tell you it is okay to open and try it, and if it does not work, to return it.

Yes, it is listed as and appears to be a new factory sealed item.
They identify themselves as an 'Authorized Intel Dealer'.
    OK, thanks.

The seal is not broken, therefore, I will not open it to look at it more closely.
I sent the seller a message with two photos indicating my displeasure after receiving the package late Friday afternoon.
Wish I had been a little more affable.
    They have not responded.

Thanks for all of the responses.
Based on the comments from Spad and risk_reversal, I was going to begin my upgrade today, but in light of Digerati's comments, I might wait until Monday to see if, and how, they respond.
