I am trying to install a REALLY old photoshop 7.. from the original disc onto a windows 10 home machine. It gets to 99% and gives me the message

setup has detected that uninstallShield is in use. Please close uninstall Shield and restart setup. Error 432

I've searched for uninstallshield and I can't find anything. Task manager doesn't have anything running with that name.. even using "everything" that search everything program can't find it.

Anyone have an idea on how to stop a service I can't find?
    thanks

Ignore the error and try installing it in Compatibility Mode for Windows 7. You do that via the Properties of the installation executable. You may need to restart first.

This is from the dell site. Basic means of doing a boot in safe mode..

    From Windows:

    1. Press the Windows logo key + I on your keyboard to open Settings.
      • If that does not work, select the Start Button in the lower-left corner of your screen, then select Settings.
    2. Select Update & Security > Recovery.
    3. Under Advanced Startup, select Restart Now.
    4. After your PC restarts to the Choose an Option screen, select Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Settings > Restart.
    5. After your PC restarts, a list of options should appear. Select 4 or F4 to start your PC in Safe Mode. If you need to use the Internet, select 5 or F5 for Safe Mode with Networking.
    From the sign-in screen:
    1. Restart your PC.
    2. At the sign-in screen, hold the Shift Key down while you select Power > Restart.
    3. After your PC restarts to the Choose an Option screen, select Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings > Restart.
    4. After your PC restarts, a list of options should appear. Select 4 or F4 to start your PC in Safe Mode. If you need to use the Internet, select 5 or F5 for Safe Mode with Networking.

Thanks all.. success!! I tried first the task manager extraneous processes - there were none. Then I copied the files from the disk to a local folder... rebooted to safe mode and installed from there. I never did find that service to stop.. safe mode wins again... dunno why I didn't try that before asking.
