No. Laptops don't have sim slots.

It may be possible, depending on your Windows version and what type of phone you have. Have a read HERE

I see quite a few owners and higher level reps that carry laptops in their vehicles or travel bags and shoulder bags. Laptops are designed to be mobile and the fashion industry has been responding to this need for at least a generation now. Hello!!

    I assume from this
that he doesn't own a smartphone.
So while calls can be routed to a laptop, you do need a phone.

I also don't think he wants wifi calling because of mentioning 4G.

    I could be wrong.

The laptop's use, purpose and design has evolved and will continue to. Systems on a chip will evolve also. All the usb dongles that can be added to the ports could one day be integrated, including modems, tivos, projectors and such. I don't know that for the right money a laptop with a built-in modem might be available today.

    You miss my point......why bother?
We have multiple device smartphones available online today in their millions, its not that hard to get one!
They are essentially hand held computers that also make phone calls!
Why would you need a shoulder bag? Thats 1990's

My new smartphone Huawei Pro packs 5G capability, Android 10, 4k graphics, 8 core SOC, 4G RAM etc.
It kicks my 5 year old lenovo laptops ass!

One big factor is real estate. Screen size. When your phone reaches 13.1 inches, you may as well have a laptop. Also competition drives innovation. While Intel and AMD may have laptops core now, what's to stop your SOC from driving a laptop? You saying it'll never happen? I may not see it in my lifetime, but you may.

Well screen size is a pertinent factor your right, my eye's are buggered now!
A modern tablet with a SIM would be better.
I love playing slot games on the wifey's Samsung 10 while im talking to family :)

It still wont fit in my pocket though!

Yeah, even mobile, if your out in the field looking at a cad drawing to see if something fits where the drawing shows, a phone is a pita!

Simple design problem. You need cargo pants with wider deeper side pockets. Sorry! No tailors here. Wrong site.

The laptop would require the hardware to add a SIM card.
The other option would be to use Skype & pay extra for a phone number.

Some business-class laptops have SIM card slots (I have used a few with my job in the past), however I would not recommend attempting to use it with dialing as support for that is pretty slim. What I would recommend, is getting a laptop with built-in support for 4G networks and signing up for a 4G data plan when you buy the laptop. Then, you can get a VoIP number and make calls through the VoIP software anywhere you have 4G service on the laptop.

My old elitebook had a 3G SIM slot, for data plans only as it lacked a cellular transceiver. It's not just the SIM card, it's the hardware too.

I tried Signal a few years ago. My problem at the time was that there was no way to save messages outside the phone. For privacy, that may be a good thing, but if you need to keep a record of text conversations (either for legal purposes, or simply to be able to search through the messages), this inability was enough to make me go back to a more traditional texting app. Now maybe if I had a need for truly private messages, I might consider using it just for those conversations, but my texting life is a boring open book.

NOTE: Things may have changed, maybe there is now a way to save Signal conversations - I haven't tried it for a couple of years. And I now see they support private audio and video calls (I don't think they existed when I used it).

Yes - depending on technology used.

With today's technologies and applications like "Zoom", these can be used for video communications, and a cloud platform for video and audio conferencing, chat, and webinars. Particularly now with COVID - this is becoming the alternative for meetings, which with a Smartphone or laptop, you can join in for video or just conferencing.

In my years, I've seen the advancement of technology moving in leaps and bounds. Things we used to see on old TV series where they spoke into wrist watches or hand held devices, we've far exceeded by plugging a device into our ear while we continue with whatever daily practice we do all the while, keeping in touch with the world., you can have it all.

Years back I bought a Samsung Smartphone - still use it today as the only phone I have (disconnected the landline as an unnecessary added expense). I also use my Smartphone for internet and website uses, conferencing, emailing etc. But I still use my laptop - 'though dated now, but I keep it updated with the latest software for home use.

If your phone is running a version of android before 7.1 (as my Samsung is), you need to be aware of what might happen in 2021.

scroll down to "If you use an older version of android".
I don't surf on my phone so it won't impact me. My android tablets have v 8 and v 9 so they'll be okay. I never got into surfing on a 5" screen when I have a 10" screen on my tablet and netbook.

You're welcome. If you don't own a very old phone, like my husband's around 2005 flip, you don't have to worry.

I'm aware of this because an internet friend in another state had to scramble in 2019 to get his wife a new phone - Verizon cell service. Then this year he had to do it again because his phone (Tracfone) was not going to work at the end of 2020. Verizon was shutting down originally at the end of 2019 but delayed it until the end of this year.

If you're an info junkie, here's plenty food for thought. You're exposed to high frequency already every day. And plenty of low frequency from commercial power distributn. So you're fried coming and going. Then the sun comes out
