OK, I asked this question on another site, but after 4 days no reply, so hopefully I can do better here. I want to build a budget PC around a 320 board and AMD 3000g cpu. Because I have some older apps that are not Windows 10 compatible I want to dual boot Windows 7. Just wondering if modern mobo's will have any issues running an older OS.
Only ask this because of some comments on Amazon. Any advice would be much appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

Depends on the specific board and the manufacture. Go out to the motherboard's website and review its specs. See if drivers are available for the OS you want to use.

That said, I would encourage you to upgrade these older programs. If the developer has ceased development, seek out a competing product that is keeping up with the time and today's security issues.

    Thanks for responding.

This particular system will not be connected to the web, so this is not to big an issue. Will check the makers site first for compatability. Wasn't expecting this as an issue, but I guess I'm a bit of a dinosaur.

    thanks again.

It can be a big issue. Driver development costs hardware companies a lot of money and typically yield no revenue in return. Its throwing profits down a money pit. These companies would much rather consumers spend money on all new hardware and software where profits can be made.

Have you considered a virtual machine?

Not sure that would help if the system didn't support Win 7. Can a VM work outside the limitations of the hardware?

Virtual machines run on their own virtual hardware with all the drivers.

Here are two virtualization products you can try for free:
    VMware Workstation Player
    VirtualBox

It seems right now VMware is more recommended in the industry, however, I have used VirtualBox many times in the past and I would highly recommend this; and in addition, there is not, as far as I know, a paid version of VirtualBox, so you get everything for free, from a very established provider. Oracle makes some very powerful products and VirtualBox in my experience is just one such product.

OK... Thanks for that. I didn't know that was possible.
Thanks, will download both and give them a go. Had stuck with dual booting in the past, but this may be a better option on a newer system.
