i guess some of you might remember that I made a career change back in 2014. Gave up paperwork to drive a big rig. Was kinda fun but it is a dangerous job. Had another truck cross over into my lane. I pulled as far as I could over on the soft but he still hit me. I was lucky he looked up from picking his spoon off the floor when he did. It was almost a deadly head on but it was his trailer that hit me. Ended up with a lot of brain injury. I guess the brain bled a fair amount. Anyway I’ll be stopping in more frequently.

Thank you joffa. Bored as hell. Not allowed to live alone and freaking depressed. I’ve already made plans in case they tell me I’m finished, I’m going to make bird houses and fill my acre yard with them. In the winter I might consider learning how to knit.

    Btw, where is everyone?

Yeah, I got about an acre. Problem is the back half is still smashed from the hurricane 2 years ago. Something always keeping me off my feet. Cleaned the front half working from my knees and feet. Had a duedeno ulcer...... Then came a hernia with the mesh repair......then the back. My back won't support me so I don't think I could do the work even on my knees and feet. Guess I'll always still have something to do. Plus 2 cars need brakes. My truck is fine but I'm not cleared to drive yet. Insurance don't allow after some back surgery. Guess I was the lucky one.

I know how much that sucks to have your license suspended for medical reasons. The DMV here removed mine because of the damage done to my brain in the accident. Not having a license really interferes with getting things done.

So when you say you have work in your yard is that trees and some outbuildings?

My movement is also limited. Things that should only take a day to do takes me a week and more.
My yard needs a lot of work also. I’d be on the road for months at a time and when I did come home I just didn’t have enough time to do anything. I’m going to work at it slowly come spring but I can’t work long periods of time. In the meanwhile I’ll build bird houses and plant them around.

I talked to my doctor yesterday and he highly doubts I will be returning to work. He told me to be happy that I walked away from the accident alive.

Driving is so much fredom. If I could just go around these back roads!!!!
My outbuildings have been exposed from under trees, dismanteled and turned in for scrap. Burning the trees as they get cut up. A slooow process.

I use to make birdhouses out of left over cut metal from jobs.
Made one in style of old western ranch with a front porch all across where the little landing stub was by a heart shaped hole to go in. Used it for 25 years in a huge heart shaped flower bed in our crcle drive.

Hope you gain back enough of your former self to at least enjoy your activities. Sounds like your on the right path.

I have so scrap metal left over from the roof. I’m not sure how I’m going to cut it but I’m going to give it a try. I was also thinking about making a small apartment building but I don’t think the birds would like it. I also think that I might insulate them because the winter is very cold here.

I might cut down some of the trees that magically appeared while I was on the road. Long ago I would make my own organic soil for my flower beds. If I cut down the threes I can put them at the side of one of my beds and start making soil again. Will take a few years to break down but I might have a lot of time on my hands anyway.

Do your doctors have you doing physiotherapy? Hopefully you gain more of yourself back as well. Life is too short to miss out on.

Damn! That is crazy! Just that one moment of not paying attention. So sorry to hear you didn't get through it without any injury, but it sounds like you are lucky to be alive for sure.

If you really do start making bird houses, you may be able to start up a business and sell them on Etsy.

Thank you LauraR. That accident had four phases and two of them would have been fatal. It’s been said I had an angel on my shoulder. I know I should be thankful for my life and I am. I don’t like what I’ve been reduced to. I have a lot of problems now.

Selling birdhouses does sound interesting. I’m just hoping that don’t fall apart. I have no experience building things so it’s kinda a new adventure. I will keep your comment in mind.

    First things first....Gloves...and Glasses.....
Then... red and green snips to cut the metal.
    Add....imagination!

Some birds are okay with group rentals. in this area, purple martin (not martians)~~

Here's an article and in the first link you can see plenty of simple houses you can easily make.

OMG I fell in love with a few of those designs. I can’t wait for warmer weather to come. I hope I can actually build them. Thank you for the links Imandy Mann. It’s been many years since I’ve actually built something so this might be a challenge. I’m excited to get started.

Yes some are easy. 3 or 4 flat boards. If a hammer and nail is too much, small battery screw drivers can be fun on thinner wood frames, and will last plentty long.

Damn SMT, that's not a nice thing to have happen to you. At least you're still alive and somewhat kicking. I do hope your condition improves with time and exercise. All the best to you.

@Imandy Mann I was wondering: I’d like to insulate it with styrofoam .... do you think I could use glue? Not sure if it could pose a threat to the birds.

@fleppen it sure was. Brains messed up so much that I can’t go back to teaching or medical care. I have to set timers and notes whenever I cook just so I know I’m cooking. The good news is, if I want something from the store I’ll forget within five minutes and save money.

If it leaves a smell the birds might not use it. Remember, their smell is more remarkable than ours. But, I really don't know birds. Do some research on questions you have.

Looks like I can use clear gorilla glue, Elmer glue or tile board glue. With winter being so dang cold here I sure hope that they will enjoy them.

Does anyone know if snakes are a problem for birdhouses? I personally hate snakes. I think this year I’m going to sprinkle some lime around.
