I've been contemplating switching to SSuite Office - Personal Edition 4.4.1, which is listed as having 5 stars and is a MG "pick". Anyone use it? I assume it will open and edit .doc and .odt files?

I've never heard of Ssuite. It also isn't mentioned at these two reviews
    https://www.pcworld.com/article/218394/best-microsoft-office-alternatives.html
    https://www.techradar.com/in/news/best-microsoft-office-alternative

It looks like they have quite a few versions

You should probably mention which one you are looking at.

I've recently switched from LibreOffice to Free Office and I'm happy. Why? Libre Office had so many parts I was never using. I actually only need something to work with "documents" and something to work with databases. U was able to install Free Office with only those two things. It saves room on my hard drive. It also includes a "power Point" type unit but I opted not to install it because I have no need for anything like that.

When you download it and go to install, be sure to click Advanced. That way, if you only need a Word processor, you can uncheck/untick the Database and PowerPoint parts of the Suite.

My apologies for not replying sooner, I received no notification of your post.

I installed it, the whole thing just to see their Excel and PP, and I love it already. It loads so much faster than Libreoffice it's amazing. It also seems much easier to navigate in as well. Thanks for the tip.

That's why I love this forum, I always get help and never any bad advice...

Has anyone tried this on Win 10?

Forget that. I was asking about SSuite Office - hadn't realised OP had shifted his attention to FreeOffice.

@plodr, did you have any trouble printing from FreeOffice? I posted this on their help forum earlier today (no replies yet):

I installed FreeOffice 2018 yesterday and really like it except...I went to print a shopping list, which is an .odt document, and all it prints is a few lines of gibberish on each page. This didn't stop until I ran out of paper, luckily I only had a few sheets in the printer. Here's my info:
    HP laptop with Windows 10
    HP ENVY 5000 series Printer
The .odt file was originally created in Libreoffice. I did try making a few changes to it (in TextMaker) and saving it, but the problem is the same.
    Any ideas?

BTW, I even tried creating a new document (.docx) and printing that. Same thing.

Recommend you reinstall your printer. My Canon MG5700 was fine with FreeOffice in a trial install.

Pardon the question but I'd got to add & remove and uninstall it first? Then what?

No problem printing but I removed LibreOffice and any odt files I associated with Free Office.

In the Program Files on the right pane, click on Default Programs. When that comes up, click on Associate a file type or protocol with a program. Wait until it populates - it might take a few minutes. Scroll down and be sure that odt is associated with Textmaker. If not, highlight odt and select change program. You'll have to search/browse to see where Textmaker.exe is located.

Not familiar with your printer or how it is connected but hopefully THIS will help.

It's associated. On the install I had the option to do this. I did just cheak the program files and it's associated.

BTW, thanks folks...I may give reinstalling the printer a try...but I'm not looking forward to it. Not now though...but soon. I'm open to any other ideas. Their help forum is no help. No one even responded to my post yet.

Try printing something from Notepad or Wordpad. If they work ok it would look like some incompatibility issue with FreeOffice. Unusual though.

I did, it works. I'll have to bite the bullet and uninstall/install the printer, which I dread because I always have trouble getting the printer to work properly. Their so-called help forum sucks. I got views but not one comment.

If it prints normally from Wordpad there isn't much point in reinstalling as the problem is confined to printing from FreeOffice. I'm no expert in printing issues but wondering if this isn't a font issue. I would try again but change the font first, ideally to the font Wordpad uses if that's an option. I've removed FreeOffice so can't test anything myself.

My print server died yesterday so I had to hook the printer directly to my computer and share it with the other computers in the house.
This morning I made an odt file and a docx file. I was able to print both.
Note: when I opened the print dialog box, no printer was selected. I'm not sure if that is because I no longer have a print server or if Textmaker doesn't save the information.
Check that the correct printer is chosen.

I did this and it worked. It was a nightmare due to HP. Spent hours on it. Got it installed again and I do not know how I did it. It now prints TextMaker 2018 files...thanks.

I believe I am done with HP printers...it seems they have various sets of instructions for installing, none of which work in their entirety. Their video told me to reset the internet connection to default. I couldn't get the printer back on again. Still don't know how I did that either. I'm going on a three-day drunk TTFN and thank you all.

Modern printers are a pain!!! All the popups about signing up for instant ink. (I'll buy a cart when I need one not when HP thinks I should.)

I'm hoping my ancient HP (circa 2004) keeps on printing. All it does is print. It is a nice front loading printer. A few years ago, I searched for a plain front loading printer. Everything now are all-in-ones, with top loading. They all have wifi too.

My husband uses an older HP just to print labels.

Last year I bought a Canon Pixma MG5750 AIO for the princely sum of £49.99. The Canon price then for a set of inks was £69.99!!! However Amazon UK do an OfficeWorld replacement set for £13.39!!! These are so good the printer thinks they are Canon originals!
The printer itself I just can't fault - superb - but may by now have been superceded.

Well done btw, and pleased you have solved your problem.
