Problems Loging Into Hotmail While Using Malwarebytes

For about 2 weeks I have noticed that I am unable to properly login to Hotmail on my PC.
A error message "There was an issue looking up your account. Tap Next to try again." shows up every time.

When I disable my MalwareBytes I can access Hotmail normally.
Once I do that I am unable to restart Malwarebytes again until I restart the computer.

I have version 4.3.0.98, update version 1.0.37573, with component version 1.0.1173

How do I solve this problem? Has anyone else been having this problem?

Thanks for looking and I hope this can get fixed. I may have problems getting emails so please understand that my account here is tied to Hotmail.

    Update to problem

I was playing with a couple of ideas I had and found that if I turn off my ad blocker "uBlock Origin" for Firefox that I can now get into Hotmail.
With that stated if I turn off Malwarebytes I still have to restart my computer to get it back on.
Any ideas of what is going on?

Sorry, no clue. I have the same version and component version of MBAM you have. I also use uBO and don't have to do a thing to be able to log into outlook, which is the same as hotmail just a newer address. (MS stopped giving out hotmail addresses and started handing out outlook addresses).

Run FF with no addons: Click on Help then Restart in safe mode. (FF safe mode not to be confused with Windows safe mode).
Try logging into hotmail. If it works, then one of your addons is causing the problem.

If that doesn't do it, clear the cookies and cache of Firefox. Note: you will lose logins and passwords so before you do this, make doubly sure you have the information for all logins at sites you visit.
Select Tools then Options then Privacy and Security in the left pane
Under Cookies and Site data click Clear data

For Cache, Click on History then Clear recent history.

    plodr,

Thanks for the tip as the problem with not being able to log into Hotmail was the fact that I was running both Malwarebytes and uBlock Origin. I was able to change settings in uBlock to turn off when I went to the login page and logged in.
I am now working on the Malwarebytes problem of not opening if I shut it off when I log into Hotmail.
I think that it is a bad update or something, and will find out for sure after I roll back the last update and try to reinstall it.

    Thanks for the help.

I run both MBAM, paid version, and uBO. I don't have to quit MBAM to log in to "hotmail" (outlook for me).

What do you mean bad update? I'm also running the same version and component version as you. Of course the database changes daily.

After you quit MBAM, to restart, you go into program, find it and click on it; it will start. I just tested this. It wasn't instantaneous. MBAM took time to start and then the icon appeared near the clock.

    You could try repairing

Note: I can't use this tool because three of the four computers in the house don't have .NET 4 which the tool needs. I don't want to install all versions of .NET 4 then go through lots of updates.

Rather than turning uBO off in order to get into Hotmail, try just disabling it on the Hotmail site (assuming you access your mail in your browser rather than in an email client app). I'm just speculating that uBO has Hotmail blocked for ads by default but not Outlook.

    plodr,

For some unknown reason it had to be a problem with the update as I did roll back Malware Bytes and then updated it again.
Everything is working fine now and am able to close and reopen it just fine again.

I don't know if there was a glitch that happened on the update the first time around or what, but I am back to normal.

So I am now able to go to Hotmail without problems and turn off and back on Malware Bytes normally.

Thanks for the information and help with this problem by pointing out about the FF addons and other information.
I did check out the support tool, but did not have to use it.

    Thanks, Tim

MBAM version 4.3.0.98 came out in December 2020 Source: https://support.malwarebytes.com/hc...-Malwarebytes-for-Windows-4-3-0-Release-Notes
I'm not able to find the component package history so I'm not sure when 1.0.1130 changed to 1.0.1173.

I'm curious, what did you do to "rollback" Malwarebytes?

I've gotten bad update packages but since those come out daily, I wait it out until the issue is fixed.
Generally, I look in the MBAM forum and when I see other complaints, I know it isn't me but a bad db.

I save a copy of each new version in a file, and if I have to roll it back I uninstall it and then reinstall it with the older version. Then I don't take the new update, but will wait until there is a newer version.
I hope that explains what I meant.
So far everything is back to normal, except for a lot of mini-dumps that are happening. They started before this problem with Hotmail happened and one of these days I will find out what is going on with it.

    Thanks, Tim

Thanks for the explanation. Ah, I don't download each update. I simply wait, go to the forum and read and allow my paid versions to update through the program. Perhaps I should be downloading a version to save.
