What Has Happened To My Taskbar?

My Taskbar has changed. I have made no changes and do not know how the change has occurred. I would like to know the possible cause to prevent a recurrence. However, I would mostly like to know how to put it right as I cannot find a way of doing so.

Its depth has increased and there is an area of grey under the icons on it that was not there before. The icons for Start, Search, Cortana and Task View are now lower than those for Edge, File Explorer, Microsoft Store, Mail, Kindle, CCleaner, Glary Utilities, Firefox, Word and Excel. They were all previosuly on the same level. Also the icons for volume, battery, keyboard language, show hidden files and the internet look like they've been randmly scattered rather than being in the neat line they previously were.

I attach an image of it and would like to know what to do. In the attached image there is only the Tsskbar and it looks like it is at the top but it is actually across the bottom of my screen.

 

So have you tried the obvious - system restore?

 

Just mouse over the top of the taskbar until you see the arrows pointing up and down, then left click and drag the top of the taskbar downwards.

After that, left click the taskbar and click on Lock the taskbar (so that the setting is checked).

Then once you done that right click on the taskbar and click lock taskbar and it won't move again

 

It shouldn't move again.

I always have my taskbars (on all computers) locked so that's what so puzzling abut this incident.
