    OS Windows 10.

All of a sudden after several years of no problems, Live Mail 2012 won't accept my password, error code 0X80ccc0F. Suggestions followed w/o success are sign in "safe mode", repair Windows Essentials 2012, clear browser, & rebooting.

When attempting to sign in in safe mode, I got the message "Live Mail could not be started, may not be installed correctly", error code 0X80041161. There was no mention of password trouble.

I thought of downloading a fresh version of Live Mail 2012 but don't want to loose my current mail files.

I use Yahoo mail w/o problems with the same password. I did sign on to Yahoo mail w/o selecting "staying connected for 2 weeks" and had to resign into Yahoo mail the next time accessing it. This is when the problem seemed to have started.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks. Instructions are a little over my pay grade but I'll see what I can do with it.

Which account are you having problems with? If Outlook/Hotmail, Yahoo, Gmail, AOL or iCloud then you’ll require an app specific password as Live Mail is classed as a less secure app.

You could save the Windows Live Mail folder
%userprofile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\ to another folder on the PC & then clean install Live Mail, run the new installation so it creates the new folder then copy & paste the old Live Mail folder back to the same place, your emails will be intact but you’ll have to re-enter your passwords for each account.

It's Window Live Mail 2012. Not sure how to use %userprofile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\ to save the WLM folder...

Copy & paste it into the file address/explorer bar - the bar starting with C:\. Sorry I don’t know it’s correct term.
I mean the email account with which you’re having problems - if it’s one I mentioned then it may require an app specific password.

You say copy & paste IT. Not sure how to do this. What are we coping and pasting? Thanks...

You copy this: %userprofile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\ & then paste it into the explorer address bar.
Then right click Windows Live Mail & choose copy, then move to desktop & right click on a blank area & choose paste.

Looks like that went ok. Icon on desktop says Windows Live Mail. Now I still have the old version of WLM. Download a fresh version with the old in place?

Again, many thank for the help.

Tried installing WLM from FILEHIPPO and it wanted to install Windows Essentials. It would not install, no reason given, tried twice.

First check to see if the Live Mail folder on the desktop contains everything - accounts, contacts, calendar etc.
Try the version from my MediaFire account:
    https://www.mediafire.com/file/xz856963cuy15zq/wlsetup-all.exe/file
The FileHippo version my be the online installer which doesn’t seem to work with Windows 10 for some users.

Desktop LM folder appears to have all with except of "contacts" which is not specifically shown by name.

    That’s fine.
I believe Live Mail uses the (old) Contacts folder which is part of Windows.

Just tried your MediaFire and it too wants to download Essentials...

Live Mail isn’t available separately, it’s part Live Essentials but you can choose to just install Mail.

Mail option doesn't appear as a choice...says already installed

You may have to uninstall it via control panel.
    If not then try this:
    a. Right click on start button

    b. Click Command Prompt/powershell w/ administrator.

    c. Run the following commands to uninstall Windows Live Essentials:

    · "c:\program files (x86)\windows live\installer\wlarp.exe" /cleanup:all /q

    d. A dialog box shows status until uninstallation has completed

will remove all Wlive programs completely allowing for reinstall.

After removing all Wlive programs, I'll still have my backup to update the new install, right? Just want to be sure. Don't want to lose my files.

Also, when reinstalling Essentials, just install mail or doesn't it matter?

Thanx again. Sorry to bother you with this.

I uninstalled Essentials but can't reinstall it thru MediaFire. Tried with mail only and then with entire program. Error code given is 0X800c006.

You can just install the Mail portion.
Yes you still need to have the folder backup.

I would also try installing while offline by unplugging the Ethernet cable & turning on airplane mode.
Try the offline installer from here:
    Universal English: http://web.archive.org/web/20170112...A50-4A4A-90E5-FA9347E9360C/en/wlsetup-all.exe
    British English:
    http://web.archive.org/web/20160423...-441F-BC0E-34F6B533B876/en-gb/wlsetup-all.exe
    Install NET Framework:
    1. Press Windows Key + R to open Run.
    2. Type Control and press OK to open the Control Panel.
    3. Go to Programs > Programs and Features.
    4. Click on “Turn Windows features on or off”.
    1. In the Windows Features window, select “.NET Framework 3.5“.
    2. Click OK. If prompted to confirm the action, click Yes.
    3. Restart your Windows computer and run the Windows Live Essentials installer and check for any improvements.

Got WE installed and have the new WLM on my desktop. While I've done nothing with the backup folder, I opened the new WLM and it's showing the same error code(s) as previously, the deleted version. Not sure what to do now with the backup.

Is the program showing the error when there’s no accounts added?
I would restore the Live Mail folder by copy & pasting the old folder back to the original place to overwrite the newly created folder.

Are you running any third party antivirus &/or firewall?
Have you created an app specific password for the Yahoo mail account?

    1) it's showing the error message with no accounts added, identical to original error message
    2) I'm running MalwareBytes av and Comodo firewall
    3) Is app specific password created? I'm using the same password for LM, Yahoo mail, and ATT bill pay

As far as copying & pasting Live Mail folder, the one in Explorer that I used to copy I believe shows as "text document". Is this the one to paste to?

    Thanx again...

Commodore firewall may be preventing Live Mail from accessing the internet.
What you need to copy is the Windows Live Mail folder which you saved to the desktop.
You would do the same as before copy & paste %userprofile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\ in the explorer address bar & then copy the Windows Live Mail folder from your Desktop back into this Microsoft folder.

This is what you need to do:

Gonna take a break from this for a while. Perhaps permanently....I'd like to keep WLM, but not sure it's worth all this. I'm apparently doing something wrong. Thanks so much for your help.
