Hi everyone. I am not a techie, new, and hoping someone can give me some suggestions as to what anti-malware/virus suites would be lightest on my system. Using an older Dell business machine just for home use,no home network, just internet; with Windows 7, sp1. Tried Norton but the download was too strange, and it seemed too big and controlling. Liked Kaspersky, but it noticeably slowed my system; Emisoft had a strange dashboard they called a work space with my real name on it and kept flashing a msg. using my real name every time I tried to use it. I have real need for privacy and use real name only when I must, and only in encrypted situations. I did tell this to them in hopes they'd improve and I could use them. Too many of these products slip in unwanted things and demand you get rid of other anti-virus programs. Thanks for any help.

I should add that I want something meaner than usual. I do a lot of researching, writing and posting, etc. Not everyone likes what I say and sometimes I have problems on some sites where what I type gets garbled, like taking over my keyboard, or they make it hard to compose and post, so on.

Our four Windows 7 computers are using MS Security Essentials. I'm not sure it is available for download anywhere but the database is still being updated.
I was correct, you can no longer download it.

So sadly, I have no av recommendation for you.

I also run a paid version of Malwarebytes. That has an av component.

If you decide to download MBAM, do a custom or advanced install. Otherwise it will install something you don't want. I forget what it is called but I always decline it when I'm updating to a newer version. I've been using this program since 2008.
I also have never downloaded their browser guard program.

Thanks for the info. Have used MB , forget what the problems were, but it became a pain and wasn't happy with the email only customer service for something as important as my security. Waiting days for an email that showed the person had not fully read mine, is not helpful when one has things to do. So that was my experience. Had Panda dome last year and it was pretty good and did not slow down machine, but some of the things I spoke about in op still happened.

Malwarebytes has a forum. I've posted there for help and gotten aid within a reasonable amount of time.
