In Windows Updates I have a message in red text that says: "Your device is missing important security and quality fixes". I have tried running Windows Updates several times. Updates fail and I get the following message: "There were some problems installing updates, but we’ll try again later. If you keep seeing this and want to search the web or contact support for information, this may help: (0x80070026)". Beneath this message is a link to click called "Retry".

I looked up Windows Update Error Code 0x80070026 and found this solution: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us...80070026/19fd74b1-6096-44f8-8a2b-b8edb5df75aa. I have followed the instructions given by Mr. Trust-A. I cannot try the first solution because there are no troubleshooters to run.

I am at no 2. where he recommends resetting Windows Update.

I want to check whether the download he recommends to reset Windows Update is safe? Also, is resetting Windows Update a good or bad idea? Finally, the tool to download will delete Update History: Is that a good or bad thing?

Have you tried resetting the update components?
Open cmd prompt/powershell with admin & enter:
    Net Stop bits
    Net Stop wuauserv
    Net Stop appidsvc
    Net Stop cryptsvc
    Ren %Systemroot%\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore DataStore.bak
    Ren %Systemroot%\SoftwareDistribution\Download Download.bak
    Ren %Systemroot%\System32\catroot2 catroot2.bak
    Del "%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\Network\Downloader\qmgr*.dat"
    Net Start bits
    Net Start wuauserv
    Net Start appidsvc
    Net Start cryptsvc
Restart the PC & try updating again.

    And/or:
Search for services.msc & find Windows Update & ensure it is set to Automatic.

No, as I wrote in my OP I have done nothing. I thought I had found a solution but I created this thread to check whether it was a wise and safe option to follow.

Unfortunately, what you posted may have been, for me, in an obscure dialect of Mongolian for all I am able to understand it.

You should right click on Start & open Powershell with administrator rights.
Then enter the commands I posted.
You can also download the media creation tool, run this & choose to upgrade now. This will do an in-place repair which does not remove programs or files (you have to option to ‘keep everything’.

At the risk of seeming obtuse or stupid: Which media creation tool?

    The Windows installation media.

Can you provide a link or tell me where exactly on Microsoft Windows 10 I can find what you are referring to? Please remember not everyone is an IT expert.
