    Following up on this thread...

I need to add a few apps to my Start Up folder in Windows 10. The problem is, many of them will launch at boot as if I opened them (instead of them just running as a minimized background process like in old versions of Windows). Is there a program that will allow me to add them to the Task Manager Start Up tab and change their behavior to mimic what it used to be like?

I'm finding I'm having issues with some programs not loading at all, even though I put a shortcut into one or both of the Start Menu folders. SpeedFan, for example, won't start on its own (and I need it to control my fan speed). Why does it not launch the shortcut for the program like others I have put in the StartUp folder that do?

I would recommend on running virus and malware scan first to make sure we don't have issues.

Speedfan needs to run elevated, which is not directly possible from the shell startup folder. Use a scheduled task to run it elevated. Or create a scheduled task and launch the task from a shortcut placed in the shell startup folder.

    Thanks, need one thing though.

I can't do the typical, right-click>>new>shortcut that is usually suggested, because I removed that via the registry long ago. It was always getting in my way and generated annoying things I didn't want when clicking it by accident. And I've honestly never needed it until now. Can you tell me where the Shortcut Wizard sits on Windows 10 so I can open it manually?

I know of no way to invoke the shortcut wizard. You can script the shortcut creation, or the easiest available way for you would be to go to
C:\Windows\System32, right click on schtasks.exe and Send to > Desktop (Create shortcut)
    Then edit the shortcut.
Give it whatever name you fancy, right click and select Properties, append /run /tn "the task name" to the Target, change Run to minimized.
Test the shortcut and if it's OK, move it to the startup folder.

First, things first...THANKS! This worked like a charm for my shortcut issue. And I'm ALMOST there!

So creating this shortcut and clicking on it does invoke the task as it should. I'm sure if I drop it into the StartUp folder it will generate the desired result. But one problem is, even after I set the shortcut to load minimized, it still opens normally and I have to close it. I need it to load into the try and stay there. Any way to fix this?

There's a setting in Speedfan's configuration to start minimized. See the pic :) I just tested this with Task Scheduler. Just trigger the task and when it starts, set the minimized option. It should run minimized there after. Unfortunately, there'll be a flash on screen when Speedfan starts and immediately hides itself; there's no way to avoid this.
