I have used Keepass for years and used the same password. Today I used Keepass to change a password in there. It automatically timed out and about 10 mins later I tried to log in again but it said wrong password. Please can anyone give me any ideas to try. I don't understand how it could happen.

Wonder if somehow, your changed password became the master password? Shouldn't since the user steps are completely different, but who knows?? Anyhoo, the easiest way is to close Keepass completely... copy over a backup file to replace the working file... and reopen with the usual master password.

Thanks very much for replying. I had just used it as usual to edit an entry, and was logged/timed out. When I tried to log back in it refused my password.
Would you be able to walk me through your idea - copy over a backup file etc ? I'm not that clever I'm afraid. Where would I find backup files?

Keepass creates a data file to house your login information: [filename you gave].kdbx. Just like with any other data files (word documents or Excel spreadsheets or photos or videos)... we're always told to make back up (duplicate) copies... so that if the originals ever get deleted by mistake or corrupted for whatever reason... we can just use our backup files instead.

But if you haven't created a backup (duplicate) of your Keepass data file... and your current file won't open anymore... I am afraid you may be out of luck, unfortunately!

The most common reason for passwords not being accepted is using the wrong case, upper or lower? It's so easy to inadvertently leave caps lock on. Hopefully your problem turns out to be that simple.
