    Hi,

I've been having trouble getting my laptop to update (Windows 10) since the 2022-06 update - The update downloads and mostly installs, but then I get the error message "Some update files are missing or have problems. We'll try to download the update again later. Error code: (0x8007000d). This is now also happening with the 2022-07 update.

The troubleshooter doesn't solve anything and I've tried disabling the update processes and deleting the relevant update files before restarting the processed but this is still to no avail. Just to be safe I've thrown a good bunch of virus/ malware scans at it, but Spybot, Malwarebytes and Windows Defender are all coming back clean, plus the fact there are no other problems despite the odd bit of sluggishness (the laptop is around 5-6 years old now) I don't think there's anything malicious at play here (or at least hope). I've also tried the recommended Tweaking.com repair tool, specifically selecting the preset intended to target problems with Windows Updates, but sadly to no avail.

That said, I feel like I've exhausted all options that I can think of. Any suggestions or advice as to how I can sort this and get my laptop updating correctly again would be greatly appreciated.

You might need to install/run the Windows 10 Update Assistant. Click the 'Update now' button. That should install the updates and fix whatever is failing.

Be sure to back up all of your personal files and folders to a USB drive before you start just in case. It's a straight forward process but you never know so be prepared.

Brother, I've been trying to fix that error since last November. I really wish I could help fix this, but I'm in the same boat you are. I spent almost 2 hours on Live Chat with Microsoft Support and even they can't figure out why that @!#*&)@$ error code keeps coming up.

If all else fails use the second download link and do a fresh install.

Just back up all of your personal files and folders to a USB drive before you start or you will lose them.

Have you tried resetting the update components?
Open cmd prompt/powershell with admin & enter:
    Net Stop bits
    Net Stop wuauserv
    Net Stop appidsvc
    Net Stop cryptsvc
    Ren %Systemroot%\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore DataStore.bak
    Ren %Systemroot%\SoftwareDistribution\Download Download.bak
    Ren %Systemroot%\System32\catroot2 catroot2.bak
    Del "%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\Network\Downloader\qmgr*.dat"
    Net Start bits
    Net Start wuauserv
    Net Start appidsvc
    Net Start cryptsvc
Restart the PC & try updating again.

    And/or:
Search for services.msc & find Windows Update & ensure it is set to Automatic.

If this doesn’t fix the problem then you can try an in-place repair:
Download the media creation tool, run this & choose to install Windows, ensure keep everything is pre-selected & continue with the installation.

Yes, they have. The built in troubleshooter repairs the Windows Update files and sets everything back to default settings.

But have they tried via those commands I mentioned?

Those commands are what the troubleshooter does. If it doesn't work then doing it manually is just banging your head on the wall. Windows troubleshooters are pretty efficient and effective. If they don't work it usually indicates a deeper problem that the Update Assistant might repair. If not then move on to the Media Creation Tool for the more thorough full system repair.

The update assistant at the link given mentioned November 2021- is that still okay to use, or is there a more recent version?

I can confirm I have tried manually resetting the update components as well.

It's accurate. The latest major update to Windows 10 is Windows 10 Version 21H2, referred to as the Windows 10 November 2021 update.

When you run the update tool it will "call home" and import the most recent updates so even if you run an older version of the tool it will still install the current updates.

Thanks - I'm actually away for a few days and not bringing my laptop, but I'll have a bash at it when I get back and let you know how it goes.

Just be sure to have an hour or two where you can check in on the progress every now and then. The Media Creation Tool can take up to a few hours depending on what option you chose (fresh install or in-place upgrade) and how many personal files/folders you have.

I haven't run the Update Tool in a while but it's probably a slow process as well.

Running the Update Tool seems to have sorted it - it was still a bit messy afterwards (a few smaller updates seemed to lag/ fail and Bluetooth decided to turn itself off), but after retrying things a few times it all seems to have settled. I've run various scans etc after the fact just to be safe and all seems good for now. Thanks!

    Glad it worked.
