Hehehe that's why I am the "Official MG Birthday Announcer" .....a title bestowed on me by the lovely Laura :D:cool:
It helps, as you should know coming from Australia, that we are living in the future so the announcements are mostly early lol :D:cool:
I only do it because I think it is nice that somebody takes the time to remember other people and hopefully it spreads a little joy in these stressful and troubled times :)
I will continue as long as my health holds up although there was a bit of a scare earlier this year :rolleyes:
    Cheers
    Pete

:p Yeah, that's been a standard joke whenever I'm speaking to someone in the U.S.A. that they're speaking back to the future - 'though gotta be careful as our slang can be "double Dutch" to the uninitiated:D

Have been out of it for a while, so not seen what's been happening here...sorry to read you've had 'a scare earlier this year', and hopefully you're fully back on track...seems lots of the 'old' bods aren't about...or maybe that's just today that I've peeked in? Phantom still about?

Yeah I am mostly okay but still have a few issues and they will be ongoing but it is what it is and I am still moving forward :)
    Hmmm....Phantom hasn't been around in a looong time....since 2015 I believe :(
A lot of the old timers are no longer regular visitors.......sad really but maybe their real life is getting in the way of their online life or maybe they are now just doing other things ;)
Hopefully LS, we will see you back on the forum on a more regular basis :)

Hey Pete, still as I remember you, i.e. "still moving forward". Shame Phantom isn't about, he was great with all of MG's members in his posts. and yeah, life happens to us all (was tempted to put in all the emojis here, but managed to resist it:D)

Thanks and I think keeping moving forward in life is the better option :)
There are quite a few members I miss like Rikky, Fred_G, Mimsy, Kestrel, Sgt. Tibbs, Wenchie, Motc7, sikvik, BILLMCC66, Bluesman, oma and many more who I can't recall or who have passed away bless their souls.
So many absent friends is why the forum is less social these days and I miss the wry and witty humour often exchanged in threads....now it is a bit more business like with short quick replies as I am sure most people now have other things they would rather be doing. Oh well nothing is forever.......sigh....
Lucky there are a few old timers still hanging around so it is still worthwhile dropping in

Gosh! I have been away for a while! So many familiar bods gone. I'm sure the new lot will come around...just a matter of connecting like the "old crowd" once did. It was a fun mix - good down time when working from home too;)

My reply didn't take last time for some reason...so trying again here:
Covid has been a bugger when it comes to personal concerns. And your 18mth wait! Trying to think – been a while since I’ve looked into MG, so pardon my memory – but if you’re an ex-service person, can this assist to speed things up?

I’ve meds and prescriptions on standby if needed. As you say, I too avoid dependency.

Your background really sums up a lot…really feel for you and like I said, admire how you’re coping. Getting to a stage of not being able to drive must have been frustrating. And thankfully, you could opt for nurses coming to you.

Your anecdote of that skinny guy really puts one’s situation into perspective. As you say, “the insight…needed…” particularly if one is having, “…a bad day…” to help make “…all [your] troubles disappear…”.

I understand about the "…woe is me self pity bug from each other…” and lack of “smiling faces or jolly repartee.” Sounds depressing.

And I understand the frustration your Mum must have gone through with the Bank, I had something similar, so my action was to transfer all my monies and patronage to another bank that would give me a loan, and close that other bank’s account. Turned out a better deal anyway.

Social services were disgraceful at one stage. Can’t say that all government services are all that great now, but with the performance ratings and social media we have nowadays, really puts such services under scrutiny.

Lovely how your family worked together towards helping each other. Don’t hear that too often nowadays.

Your wife is more devout than I am…but I know my faith won’t waver, regardless. And I agree that people shouldn’t be “Bible bashed”. People will come around when/if they do.

It’s good that you’re at home and hopefully you’ll reach that “normal existence” sooner than later.

Not into games, so not familiar with "new DLC out for Fallout 76 called The Pit”, but it sounds like a good distraction for you!

    Keep on keeping on…Cheers

    Take care

I'm just throwing my name in there as a huge fan of our Official Birthday Announcer! I"m so happy to see you back on here, Pete! We missed you.

I miss all these people as well...and a bunch more. :( They were all from when I first started on here. Message boards as a whole were a much more active thing and we had a lot of good times.

Gee thanks Laura, you really are a sweetie :D
I joined MGs in 2012 but I was a lurker from about 2008 so I was reading a lot of the early member's posts.........hmmmm thinking back to the dawning of home pcs (1980s) and I remember when I got my first 300 baud modem, you know the first ones which you sit the telephone handpiece in the cups and it ties the phone up for hours, I joined a local bulletin board called The Witches Brew BBS and the members were loosely following Dungeons & Dragons (the very first PC turn based version) and you could also get a bit of tech help there too.......these were very different times:cool:
My first modem was a Hayes 300 baud and it looked the same as this

now I have an optic fibre connected to my house and a 1Gb/s modem.......the changing times lol

I just checked. I joined here on 1 Sept. 2007. I'm not sure how I stumbled into the forum. I'm pretty sure i checked out the software for a few years before I discovered there was a forum.

Thanks to all of you *old* members of the unbeatable geeks. You guys give me a warm feeling.

If it wasn't for my spouse and daughter I wouldn't be writing here, so I owe them my life and I mean that sincerely.

Darn, but now I have to start learning how Windows 10 works and the workings of the updates and the net. I had to call in an expert of Windows who guided me how to fix the PC which is as old as Methusalem and now since I am now a recent reborn dummy.:D

There were about 20 doctors and some others and ofcourse my daughter who were all involved in me getting better although I won't be the same as before since I am older as well and so very forgetful as a fly on speed.
