I recently had a 6-day stay at the Livingstone Hospital.
Nurses emptied catheters in the ward basins, and the cleaner did the same with a bucket of water after washing the floor!
And this is how a blocked basin is repaired.

 

Hospitals in Cape Town are equal to private hospitals.
But, I may not discuss why.

Not an expert in SA health care... but methinks the system there shares one similarity with our own in that folks who have money can get excellent care... while the less fortunate might experience a horrible system. Same with daily living too. Joburg's inner city is grim - not unlike inner city LaLa Land here. And yet, go to Sandton... or the nice parts of Cape Town... and you will experience modern city living that rivals the best of America or Europe.
