Hey MG, sorry if I miss some birthdays in the next couple of weeks.
Not sure what is happening at the moment but this morning 4/12/2022 at 2:57am my mum passed away. My sister and I were at the hospital and it was really sad and very distressing. I am the oldest son and there is a funeral to arrange and lots of friends and relatives to inform so I might not be on the forum very much and to cap it off I am having some health issues again so not sure what time will be left for MGs.
    Sadly
    Pete

Hey Pete....I'm so very sorry to her about your Mum. Sending warm thoughts out to you and yours. Of course you won't have time for MGs. Being around all of your friends and family will hopefully be comforting to you during this hard time.

I also hate to hear you are having more health issues. Of course, you know your MG family here is pulling for you. We hope to see you soon...when you have the time to check back in.

    Warmly, Laura

So sorry to hear of your loss. At least you and your sister were with her. Sadly, I was not with either of my parents when they died.

Let your good memories overtake the sad ones.

Thank you guys and gals as your thoughts mean a lot to me.....I am exhausted and couldn't sleep so here I am back on MG's doorstep lol

Hey Laura thanks for your very kind thoughts and a bit of an update. I had some pathology tests last week and the upshot is that I will be having a couple of CT scans and an MRI and then the specialists will have a mother's club meeting and decide what to do...........fingers crossed

Thank you for the good advice plodr and although it was distressing for me at the end, I am glad I could be there to say goodbye. So sorry that you didn't get the opportunity to be with your parents as I think in my case it helped me to be able to say my goodbyes and reassure her that she was not alone :(

Thank you Virginia and I appreciate your kind thoughts :(

Thank you Zebra Last and now the healing process begins......first is the funeral on Friday :(

Thank you for the kind words TechnicalBook and maybe we will catch up some time in the future under happier circumstances ;)

Thanks again Laura and fingers crossed is my strategy......although if I found a magic lamp and got three wishes .......

Thank you for your thoughts and as they say "Time is the healer" :)

Thank you Eldon and yes it has been a while for sure........it will be a sad Christmas this year so instead of me cooking a 6.5kg turkey buffé and also a honey glazed ham in the BBQ with all the roast vegies and trimmings then having the whole family over for a long boozy lunch that often stretches into dinner, this year for the first time ever I cancelled Christmas dinner at my place and we are all going out to a fancy restaurant on Christmas day for a traditional Christmas dinner. My thinking is that if we were at my place everyone would be sad that mum/nanna isn't there and with a few drinks under the belt it might turn into a miserable occasion but at a crowded restaurant everyone will have to put on a happy face out in public so it won't become a pity party........it might cost me a fortune but it is worth it so that future Christmas Days are not going to be remembered as sad occasions by my kids and siblings.....I am telling everyone we are celebrating mum's life and not her passing
Maybe next year we can go back to the traditional dinner at my place ;)

It is good to change the routine for a holiday. I did the same for Thanksgiving, the year my husband lost his mother. I didn't want him sitting at the table staring at her empty place and feeling very sad. I informed my parents and his step-father, that we were going away for Thanksgiving week. We did something completely different that year so he wouldn't feel quite so sad.

Thank you Philipp....at least mum didn't suffer for very long.

Yeah similar train of thought to me and us being out in a fancy restaurant, everyone will, hopefully, be putting on a happy face

Thank you for the kind thoughts Gensuknives...... and having the family Christmas dinner in a fancy restaurant will make it special so hopefully everyone will have a happy memory going forward.

Thank you so much David and yes having family around helps lift your spirits although it has been a bit tough because it was totally unexpected and it all happened over six weeks.
We haven't caught up for a while ......I guess real life gets in the way of online life ;)
Wishing you and your family a very merry Christmas and a healthy and happy new year :D:cool:

Life does get in the way alot I feel in the past few years, hence why I'm not as active online as I really want to be as at MG we have some awesome characters!!

A passing of a loved one no matter if known or unexpected is tough enough. I know as this year both my aunt and uncle passed within 4 days of each other, still dealing with the estate they left.

Wish you and family all the best over the christmas holidays and I know you will all support each other, lets hope 2023 is a kind one for us all.

Jeez Dave sorry to hear about your aunt and uncle and as many have recently mentioned to me, that death eventually comes to us all but hearing this platitude doesn't make things any easier. I hope you had some support to help get through the bereaving process.
By the way thanks for your advice about mum's macular problems as it gave us some very specific questions to ask mum's ophthalmologist which lead to a much better outcome for her as previously he was going to do nothing but when confronted by what amounted to "insider knowledge" she was put on a series of expensive injections that bought her an extra four or five years of her diminishing sight.

We haven't even started sorting out mum's estate and it will be a problem as one of my estranged brothers is a confirmed narcissist and everything is about him and he always tries to take control......my father's estate ended up in the Supreme Court with most of the family suing my brother for their stated entitlements which he withheld and later sold.......lucky the family won and he had to pay for all the items that were sold plus over AU$120,000 in legal costs ......... at least mum has an ironclad will that will be difficult for him to challenge and this time he is not the executor so will play no role in distributing mum's estate.
Good luck settling your aunt and uncle's estate as this situation can bring out the best and worst of the human condition.

Take a break from work and go somewhere to relax over Christmas and don't work too hard although knowing you this will fall on deaf ears as I also know you really rise to the challenge of your research even though it is a tough grind and a lot of the hard work falls on only a few people.
Good luck in your future endeavours and take care......... I'll drop you a line when things get back to some sort of normal around here :)
    Cheers Pete

Thank you for the kind words Nick and they say that time slowly heals all wounds so things are slowly getting better.............although Christmas was a bit quiet this year.
The family has decided to wait until late January next year to deal with mum's will and estate so that will be another memory trigger when we clear out her house :(
