    Hi,
I have a small key cutting machine in my jeep.
I use it connected to the 12v supply & controlled by my laptop.
    All works fine.

A few months ago i installed an inverter just in case the 12v supply failed.
At least i could then connect it to the inverter & run it as if it was in my house using the 240v dropped down to 12v

Its connected so that all i need to do is plug its lead into the 12v supply or plug the lead into the inverter lead.
I connected it to the inverter today & went to cut a key.
I was told COM5 not available.
I checked in Device manager & changed the COM 7 to COM5
Switched the machine off then on but still the same.
Looking closely it shows driver not installed or couldnt start driver.

Asking it to install a known driver didnt work say because driver instlled was the best etc.
I remember that i had a separate driver for this machine so putting onto a usb stick i installed in.
This was USB_SETUP.exe,when you run it i see PL-2303 DRIVER INSTALLER SETUP
Once completed i see sucessfull so i switch off / on the machine but still the same.

Looking in Device manager when connected to 12v supply i only see ports (COM & LPT)
I see no mention of com port but it works fine.

Looking in Device manager when connected to the inverter i the see say USB seial to usb
I select it & i am able to see the com port number & the option to change it if need be.
This is where i see the box for driver details, uninstall, dissable, enable etc etc

Any advice on how i overcome this as when i first installed it all was working so not sure why now the driver doesnt do anything even though i see sucessful message once installed.

    Windows 7 32 bit

    Many Thanks

Lower priced inverters supply square waves, while picky devices expect sine waves...

The inverter in question is a pure sine wave.

One would think there must be some difference, with voltage, current, grounding, interferance, etc.

Are you able to advise how I can trouble shoot this as buying another when this is like new still isn’t really an option at present.

I'd contact the mfgrs tech dept with details of the problem for advice, there may be additional filters etc for such situations.

I was unable to ever get through to the manufacturer
I’m going to try & look at lap top in the mean time

I managed to is tall the driver & cut a key. I switched the machine off & on again where I was then told com4 etc isn’t ready
    Back to same issue.
I have another laptop exactly the same so I swapped them over. Same again cut a key then nothing.

    I cant understand Chris.
With machine running in 12v I look in device manager & I only see COM / LPT

When I connect to inverter & look in device manager it then shows me say COM5 etc.

    Why I’m one COM/LPT but the other COM5 ?

Im wondering if the laptop might be the issue ?

I have a different make of laptop so tomorrow I will try that & see.

Is there any advice for sorting out code10 etc or trial & error process.

Using a different laptop I’ve noticed as soon as I connect the usb lead from the key machine I hear a ding sound of which is normal.
But it then continues to ding until I pull it out.

If I connect the 12v power lead to the machine & then connect this Ian lead it dings once & stops.

Why when I only change the lower supply do I hear this ding.
It’s not like I’m using a mouse etc or laptop of which it should ding once because this is just a power supply.
Just can get my head around this.
