Crucial Mx500 (m3cr045 Firmware) Having Very High Ftl Program Page Count ??!!

  1. i got my MX500 (500GB) (M3CR045 firmware) on 15/3/23 and connected to the PC via USB - it's not detected by 'My Computer' but detected by Crucial Storage Executive + Speccy + CrystalDiskInfo + HD Sentinel........

After 6 hours (unused) the FTL Program page count is 2866 while Host Program page count is just 2 !! ...........2+ hours later, the FTL Program page count went to 3013 while Host Program page count is only 6............!!.............Total Writes is just 20.48KB...........so does this mean the memory cells will wear out much faster than normal ??

could it be that the FTL Program page count is so high due to HD Tune scan and Crucial Storage Executive extended self-test with reads and writes ??

This SSD has M3CR045 firmware (i heard this firmware has serious issues) so should i update to M3CR046 firmware ?

i also have 2 other MX500 (250GB) - both with M3CR043 firmware and working fine, should i update both of them to M3CR046 firmware ?

Is the drive formatted and assigned a letter in Disk Management?

No. Yes. Maybe. Don't "brick" the drive, and back up everything that is important. Follow instructions to the letter. Maybe. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I'm not reading good things about this drive, like the "case of the vanishing SSD". Multiple reboots for BIOS to recognize it. Crucial has normally been a reliable vendor of RAM and SSDs. Actually made by Micron, which is top notch. However, they may have laid an egg here.

If you do update the firmware, be prepared.

  3. actually i didn't initialize the SSD at all.............i plan to use it as a 2nd stand-by clone for my boot drive so i just cloned it..........i'm using it right now as the boot drive to test it out - it works fine though.............

i also have another clone of my boot drive - i also didn't initialize it and cloned it right away, it also works fine but when connected to the PC via USB - it doesn't show up at File Explorer too !

i tried to update the firmware but was unable to after many attempts - i think i'll just leave it be................

so the FTL writing won't wear out the memory cells ?..............if it won't, then i won't worry about it............

You're welcome. BTW, the cloning completed the tasks which I inquired about.

  6. oh yeah, i just read about how initializing a new drive is not needed if cloning a new drive ...............many thanks again !:)
